Remainder of the Year Faculty and Department Meetings
Traditional faculty/department meeting months: January, March, May, June
Academic Eligibility
Level 1 - For a student failing one class, the coach or advisor will be touching base with the students to make sure the student is working towards passing that class.
Level 2 - For a student failing two classes, the student is ineligible and must meet with their assistant principal to develop a remediation plan. Once the remediation plan is developed with the assistant principal and student, the student can continue to practice but is ineligible for games or contests until they have reached level one (one failing class), or met the requirements of the remediation plan.
Level 3 - If a student is failing more than two classes, the student must meet with their AP. The student is ineligible for all games/contests until they have reached level one (one failing class) through a remediation developed between the student and assistant principal.
**Also, students that are ineligible should not be leaving study hall (including afterschool) without a pre-signed pass from their teacher. Please help your colleagues out by checking your study hall rosters against the eligibility list.
Oak Tree Recognition
Do you know an outstanding colleague? Consider nominating that person for the Oak Tree Recognition. For more information go to the website or directly to the nomination form link below: Oak Tree Website
Nominations are accepted August-January, see each year's Nomination Form for the current deadline. Nominations must include a 1-page typed narrative describing:
- How the teacher has demonstrated expertise in the subject matter, connects well with students, engages students using a variety of teaching methods and strategies, and/or incorporates a variety of teaching approaches to best benefit all learners.
- Special talents or commitments of this teacher, including extracurricular or school community endeavors.
- How has the teacher touched your life or the lives of his or her students?
Study Hall and Supervision Reminders
We have seen an increase of groups of students in the hallways while classes are in session or after school. This can make it challenging for teachers holding classes or supporting students academically during those times. This is especially true if the students are not supervised. It only takes a minute for an accident to occur, so please protect yourself and your students by being present.
Thank you for your support.
Sign out sheets need to be used for students leaving the classroom.
Attendance will be taken before students are given passes to leave. Please communicate this to your study hall on day one and keep consistent.
Students may use this time to work with other teachers, but only with a pre-signed pass. Exceptions to this would be the Math Lab or LOTE Lab but students still need to sign out.
Cell phone use is not allowed during study halls.
Students may listen to music using their Chromebooks and headphones.
Students may use this time to work collaboratively at the discretion of the supervisor. Please limit students in the hall to one “group” at a time.
Please limit students using the bathrooms to one at a time.
Monitoring of student work is essential. If students have completed all work they should be reading or working on a school-related task. Study hall is not a time for students to be playing games on their Chromebooks. Communication between teacher(s) and study hall supervisors can make this task easier on the supervisor and have a positive impact on students.
Cleaning out email, classrooms, and other organizational tasks on student Chromebooks would be an appropriate use of time once work is complete.
Study hall supervision is not an easy task but our consistency in these areas will help us all as well as our students.
Each of us has our own style and our own strategies and that is a very important piece of any classroom. There is room for these differences in combination with staying consistent with our expectations.
