Lost and Found Reminder!

All items that remain in the Lost and Found after December 20th will be donated to a local charity. Feel free to stop by and check for any of your child's belongings.

Coming December 13th - Break One Rule Day to support Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation!

Why? Our school chooses to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as one of our philanthropies each year.

When? Thursday, December 13th

What? Bring $1 (or more) to break ONE rule for the day. Rules that apply to be broken are:

1. Wear pajamas

2. Wear a hat

3. Wear sunglasses

4. Wear a hoodie up all day

5. Bring an unhealthy snack

6. Bring a drink for snack, other than water

7. Bring a stuffed animal

**Students may only choose to break ONE rule.

Who? All students may participate. The Greystone Ambassadors are sponsoring this event and will be collecting the money at the front door and bus door that morning.

Does your child have earphones or earbuds at school?

Big picture
It is important for all students to have earbuds or a pair of earphones at school. This allows them to have their own and not share. If you are unable to provide these, please make sure your teacher knows so we can make provisions. We also use these for testing in grades 2 - 5. This might be a good holiday gift!

Implementation of Erin's Law

Attention All Parents: To comply with Erin’s Law, HCS school counselors and administrators have created a plan to provide basic child sexual abuse prevention lessons for students. We have prepared a brief video that outlines plans for elementary, middle and high school levels. You will find more detailed information on HCS’s plan to implement Erin’s Law, including the option for your child to opt out of these lessons if you so choose. This information is also available in Spanish. Disclaimer: If you need alternate accommodations in accessing the video content, please contact Marley Stephens at mstephens@hoover.k12.al.us.

PTA Spotlight: Lorie Dorn

My name is Lorie Dorn. This is my second year at Greystone Elementary School and first year to serve on PTA Executive Board. My husband Rick and I have two children. Our son is in 7th grade at Berry Middle School and our daughter is in 4th grade at Greystone.

I, along with Mandy Weiner serve as Vice President of Programs. We are responsible for teacher related programs such as Room Coordinators, New Comers Coffee and Teacher Appreciation week and luncheon.

PTA is a great way to be involved in our school. There are many volunteer opportunities to accommodate the busiest of schedules. I encourage everyone to consider joining the PTA.

Attention All Responsible 4th Graders

Do you like volunteering for community service? Do you want to help keep the students at our school safe? Consider joining safety patrol!

We are searching for students who are interested in serving on our Safety Patrol Team for the spring semester. The first schedule will run from January 7-March 14, 2019. You should only apply for this position if you want to help keep Greystone safe and can commit to keeping up with this responsibility.

Morning patrols must be at their post by 7:15 a.m. Afternoon patrols should plan to be on duty until 3:05 p.m. Parents need to be sure their child will be at school by their designated time. We do not want patrols arriving late for their post or leaving early.

Being a part of safety patrol is a position of honor and leadership. We appreciate the work the patrols do and the time they give to the school. Safety patrol members must realize this is a commitment and they will be expected to be on post at their scheduled time.

Students who serve on the safety patrol team during the 3rd and 4th nine weeks will earn a special party before we get out for summer break.

If you would like to apply to be a part of safety patrol for the remainder of the year, please submit an application through the following website:

Applications are due December 17th!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Carns
