November 17, 2017
I must take a moment to share my thankfulness to you for sharing your precious children with us! Each morning as our children arrive, their smiles and hugs remind me of the importance of our work and just how joyful being an educator is. Thank you so much! Your trust and patience as we celebrate or problem solve together are genuinely appreciated! Midway is the most wonderful family!
As we approach the holidays children get excited so please continue to help us focus on the safety of our children.
- If you are coming to join for lunch or for a class event, please remember to bring our driver's license for checking into the school. This also goes for your guests and family members.
- If you are changing transportation, please send a note to your child's teacher.
- Please continue to carefully watch for children during arrival and dismissal.
- Drive slowly and please do not use your cell phone while moving through car rider.
Together we will keep our young ones safe! Thank you!
Travel safely over the holidays! Read great books with our children and exercise with them to work off that extra slice of sweet potato pie!
Yours truly,
Jan Fickling, Principal of Midway Elementary
There are a “minion” reasons to be thankful!

Budding Midway artists sell first piece of art after State Fair exhibit!
Helen Hall of Columbia made a visit to MES on Thursday to purchase two students' works of art that she saw on display at the SC State Fair.
Namiah Luke sold her cat artwork and Caroline Ziegler kept her original cat and gifted a second piece to Mrs. Hall.
Mrs. Hall was very excited about her purchases and brought gifts to the two girls to show her appreciation.
This was an exciting day for Namiah and Caroline. Congratulations to these two fine artists as we celebrate their talents and good fortune.

ATTENTION 2ND GRADE PARENTS!
The Art Team at Midway is doing a collaborative art project and we need
your help! We are studying the artist Kirkland Smith and her found object
mosaics. She is a local artist known for creating mosaic portraits of highly
influential historical figures, and in these mosaics she uses primarily plastic
objects such as old toys, bottle caps, and utensils.
What we need our 2nd graders to do:
● Fill a zipper freezer bag with small plastic objects. We will be using mostly
bottle caps, but they can also include items such as old toys and utensils.
Please make sure they are clean!
● They should have their name and their homeroom teacher’s name written on
the bag.
● These bags will stay at home until we need them. We will need them when
we return from Thanksgiving break on November 27th.
Pictured below is an example.
Thank You Officer Lint!
