THIS WEEK'S VIRTUE CHALLENGE!
Hope
St. Kateri’s hope in union with God brought her to seek baptism even when her tribe was against it. She had trust that God’s plan for her was separate from her village.
What Is It?
Desire and trust for divine union & eternal happiness.
Trust and confidence in God’s plan.
Hope is the opposite of despair.
Live It Out!
At meals, tell God (and one another?) what you hope is going to happen after the meal. How do your hopes point toward union with God?
If something goes apart from your plan, ask what good might come from it? How can it lead to happiness in the long run?
Science, Common Sense, and the Sacred
This summer is a great time to learn and we have just the opportunity for you. Jonathan Lunine, Chair of the Astronomy Department at Cornell, vice-president of the Society of Catholic Scientists, and a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Ithaca will conduct a two-week short course titled “Science, Common Sense, and the Sacred: Understanding the Relationship of Science and Faith ” on July 13-16 and July 20-23.
This online course will challenge prevailing misconceptions about the relationship of science and religious faith. Science and faith are increasingly presented as an either/or choice, but they are not. In many ways, religion established a worldview that enabled modern science as we know it to exist. And, far from being an enemy of science, the Vatican supports science through the work of religious orders that run universities and are directly involved in scientific research.
The course will have eight one-hour online (Zoom) sessions running Monday through Thursday beginning July 13 from 7-8 p.m. Each session will be self-contained, with time for questions in each session. You can join for one or all sessions, as time permits.
This program is intended for Catholics from high school upward who want a deeper understanding of the relationship between science and our faith, or who want to be more effective communicators on this topic. No experience with science or theology beyond the basic tenets of our faith is required. A reservation is needed so that you can receive a Zoom invitation. To make a reservation, e-mail Ann Marie Eckert at ann.marie.eckert@dor.org before July 10.

Information & Registration Online at http://saintpiustenth.org/parish-life/faith-formation/
We don’t yet know what guidelines for gathered Youth Ministry/Faith Formation will look like this fall; but we know that we are committed to assist you to grow in faith and friendship.
We have always offered a wide variety of options to help your family, teens and children grow in love of Christ and in their Catholic Faith. At this point we are inviting you to register for one of these options for next year.
We are collaborating with our Diocesan Evangelization & Catechesis Office to explore many possible options for the fall, and like you, we are waiting and watching to see how things proceed and what life will look like in the Fall.
Please know we are committed to the best practices that will assure the health and safety of each person and we are very interested in hearing about your needs and the needs of your children.
