Shirazi Class Newsletter

Week of April 27

Dear Parents

I'm EXTREMELY sad to report that this Friday is Mr. Alex's last day at West Hollywood. He has found another job... much closer to home. Please take a few minutes to say good bye and wish him well! We sure will miss him!!

Please see below for some important info for the week.

Best,

Tammie Volk (Ethan's mom)

Ms. Shirazi's Room Parent

Aid for Nepal!

Our school will be having a drive to aid the victims of the earthquakes in Nepal. We will be collecting toothpaste, toothbrushes and blankets. Everything must be packaged individually. We will box up the items and Operation USA will come to school and pick them up.

Ms. Libbie will be putting a collection box in the entrance hall at school by tomorrow. Please give whatever you can!

Apple Fitness Test

We held our first Apple Fitness Challenge as a fun fundraiser when we started the Apple Program several years ago. This year, we're bringing it back as the Fun Fit $50K Apple Fitness Day and our goal is to raise money to upgrade our existing equipment and for our technical support position next year. For Apple Fitness Day, students collect pledges from friends and family and then they participate in games and sports led by volunteers--like a "walk-a-thon" but without a specific pledge per lap or mile. Some of the games include a relay race, soccer and hockey shoot out, a dance party, and Sharks and Minnows, to name just a few.

We know the kids look forward to this event (playground, jumping, running, sure!) and we aim for 100% participation. If every student gets 10 pledges of $20 or more we'll make our overall goal for next year's upgrades. Parents can help out by returning the required permission slip by May 10 (in backpacks by Wednesday or download below) and working with their student to collect pledges. Please see the links below for forms and more information and thank you for your continued support of our Apple Technology program!

Coffee with Mr. Pannell!!

Mr. Pannell has moved the Principal's Coffee scheduled for this Friday (May 1) to May 8 at 8:30am. If you have any questions/comments or just wanna chat with him.. this is the time!

Contributing to the Class!

Our classroom really needs some tender loving care... so if you have some time after school on Tues or Fri (20-30mins?) would you be so kind as to sign up to help clean our classroom. Our kiddos deserve a nice, clean environment to learn in! :) Please sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0c48a9ad22aaf49-classroom1

Yearbooks... only ONE week left!!

You can customize two pages of the yearbook with your own student's pictures that will print only in your copy. You must first register for a TreeRing account and then you'll be able to start customizing, or you can pre-purchase now without customizing.
www.treering.com/validate?PassCode=101358194352588

Customized pages must be completed by May 1. Yearbooks are $21.99 for the paperback edition and will be delivered before the end of the school year.

Want to see pictures of your student's class in the yearbook? Please upload your photos to our Shutterfly site. See directions on getting access on the site if you're a first-time user: http://westhollywoodphotos.shutterfly.com/ Please name your album ("Mrs. Pando's Trip to LACMA 2015", etc.) so we know where to place photos in the yearbook.

ART EXHIBIT MAY 13TH!

On Wednesday, May 13 from 4:00-8:00 PM, the Arts Committee will host an evening filled with art, live music, food and drink, with all of the proceeds going directly back to our kids.

Not only will the children's classroom art be up for auction at this incredible event, but we will also be presenting works from notable artists that will be available for purchase.

Please check out the event website www.WhatIsExtraOrdinary.com to see a full list of artists as well as classroom art that will be for sale. Admission is free, and there will be something for everyone.
