MTSS-B Framework

Over the summer, numerous members of the MVRHS community met to begin to build our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Framework. This work was led by Molly White of the NH MTSS-B Network. The Multi-Tiered System of Support for Behavioral Health and Wellness (MTSS-B) offers a comprehensive system of social, emotional, and behavioral supports to promote student wellness and improve engagement in learning.

The team utilized many expectations of student success already in place at MVRHS to create the behavior matrix. These are posted around the building and are supported by all staff. We are very proud of this work, and along with district policy, sets the expectations of success for students at MVRHS.

An Adolescent Epidemic-Vaping

Recent national surveys demonstrated a drastic increase in e-cigarette use among high school students. The YRBS, taken two years ago, also showed an increase in vaping by Mascoma students. An article from the New England Journal of Medicine reported a 10% increase in adolescents using e-cigarettes between 2017 and 2018 alone, which is approximately 1.3 million teenagers. The Mascoma Valley Regional School District has a policy addressing this issue: Prohibitions Regarding Use and Possession of Tobacco Products, E-Cigarettes and E-Liquids in and on School Facilities and Grounds. The full policy can be found at: https://www.mascomaschools.org/common/pages/DisplayFile.aspx?itemId=33700583. We ask the MVRHS community to be aware of the signs of vaping. We have a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor to support teens and families. There are also numerous cessation programs available. We are here to help you navigate this process. Please reach out to guidance counselors or social workers with questions.

Meet the New Staff

Emily Woods is the new Family & Consumer Science teacher! She grew up in the Upper Valley and is so excited to be teaching in this community. She has spent the last three years as an educational assistant in the Hanover School District while completing her degree. While working as an educational assistant, Emily learned very quickly that she wanted to teach life skills based classes. When Emily is not in the classroom she enjoys baking, decorating (and redecorating) her home, going on trail strolls, and trips to the Montshire with her family.

Welcome Ms. Woods!!!

Principal's Message

We have had a very successful start to the school year. Mr. Simula and I met with all grade levels to set expectations and remind students of policies as well as safety measures in place at MVRHS. Student leaders spoke to students about the many exciting events that take place over the course of the school year, Homecoming being the first large event to kick off the year. This week, classes will meet to discuss leadership opportunities and plan for homecoming floats. We look forward to a September full of learning, celebrating achievements, and gathering as a school community. WE are MASCOMA! Go Royals!!
