All information shared is confidential and submitted electronically to LWE Administration.
Our goal is to make classroom assignments that will maximize the opportunity for your child’s success. If you have information you would like to have considered in your child’s placement, you may complete and submit this form no later than May 26, 2017. Please limit your input to the way your child learns and special needs we should consider. We will not honor requests for a specific teacher, however we will do our best to consider your feedback. Lakeway's Little Library
We are proud to announce that Lake Hills Service Unit Girl Scout Troop #177 will dedicate their Little Library donation to Lakeway Elementary on Thursday, May 25th, 2:00-2:30. We are inviting administration and the other Girl Scouts from our school to attend the dedication.
The Free Little Library movement is meant to be a gathering place for the community to have a 24 hour a day library option while recycling books. Families are encouraged to walk, ride a bike, or drive by the Free Little Library to "Take a book, and Leave a book". The girls who built this Free Little Library have been serving as Girl Scouts at LWE since First Grade and are proud to leave this as their legacy to the education and love of books that have gained while attending Lakeway Elementary.
Troop #177 - Jannae Ailwadhi, Caroline Jackson, Laurel Larrew, Sofia Mager, Berkeley and Savannah Smith, Gabrielle Wood, led by Mindy Smith, Parent and 3rd grade teacher at LWE.

Get Involved in Mental Health Promotion
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the first week of May is dedicated to children’s mental health awareness. Mental health is an integral part of adolescents’ well-being, and most young people experience positive mental health. Nevertheless, nearly one third of high school students have experienced depression symptoms, and about 20 percent of all 13- to 18-year-olds have had or are currently experiencing a seriously debilitating mental health disorder. Everyone has an important role to play in supporting adolescents, reducing stigma, and enhancing positive mental health. Here are some tips and resources to get started. https://www.hhs.gov/ash/oah/adolescent-development/mental-health/index.html

THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF BATTERY DISPOSAL
Most batteries, including rechargeable batteries, contain mercury, cadmium, zinc, copper, lead, lithium, or potassium. These are all hazardous to the environment and to human health. When the batteries that we use are thrown into the trash, the batteries end up in landfills. As the battery casing corrodes, chemicals leach into the soil and make their way into the water supply and eventually reach the ocean. These are all hazardous to the environment and to human health. They also release toxins into the air when they are burnt in waste combustors. Cadmium is easily absorbed by plant roots and are then stored in vegetables, fruits, and grass. Impure water and plants are consumed by humans and animals, causing abdominal pain, liver and kidney damage, headaches, asthma, nervousness, decreased IQ in children, and sometimes cancer. Cadmium and nickel are known human carcinogens. Lead has been linked to birth defects and developmental damage. Mercury is highly toxic, especially in the vapor form.
Please help me protect our environment by recycling your old batteries. Please place all of your old batteries into the recycling container in the school office.
Sincerely,
Blake DuValle
