Principal Lamour's Corner: Week 14, We Got This, Luce Crew!
Hello Luce Crew,

I want to thank the Luce Crew for making me feel welcomed to the community! This year has been unprecedented in many ways. However, we got through it as crew. I am excited to start the new year with you and navigate unchartered territory. We will get there together!

5th Grade Promotion Plan
Luce School Fifth Grade Promotion Ceremony
We are excited to share with you our plans for the 5th-grade promotion ceremony at the Luce Elementary School. We hope members of the community can make it. If you do, please make sure to wear a mask, and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
Please see the detailed information below:
When:
Tuesday, June 23, 2020, from 10 am-12 pm *** Please Note This Is A Change of Time.***
What:
Stop 1: Each class will arrive at the Pleasant St Bus Loop by the designated time below for each class prior to the start of the rolling parade in order to receive the personal belongings of their child(ren), promotion certificates & T-shirts, and a car sign (with your child’s name on it):
*** Please Note These Times Have Changed.***
Ms. Wade’s Class: 10:00 AM (Please arrive at least 10-minutes prior to 10 am)
Ms. Fabbiano’s Class: 10:30 AM
Ms. Shemtov’s Class: 11:00 AM
Ms. Fish’s Class: 11:30 PM
Please note we are encouraging parents to decorate their vehicles.
Stop 2: Parents will be escorted by the Canton Police Department to follow the route outlined below after receiving their child(ren)’s personal belongings:
Take a right onto Pleasant St. Take a right onto Independence St.;
Take a right into the Luce parking lot. Make the loop inside the Luce parking lot.
Parents will queue up their cars in the parking loop (closest to the school), so that their child(ren) can get out of the car and take a picture 6ft-apart from their teacher in front of the school sign. Please have your child sit on the passenger side (front or back) of your car to unload safely. Students will get back in the car and into the rolling-parade queue;
We will have a professional photographer taking the photos which we will share with families at a later time;
Parents must remain in the car; can take a photo/video from their car window;
After the last child takes their picture, the rolling queue will roll out of the Luce driveway;
Exit the Luce parking lot by taking a right on to Independence St.;
Left onto Prospect St.;
Take a right onto Sherman St. and complete the route down Sherman St.
The parade route ends at Washington St.
Parents will head home after they clear the parade route.
Please note:
Parents will need to stay in their cars during the student distribution process, rolling parade, and during pictures. Pictures can be taken from the passenger side window.
Cars should not come back to the school parking lot after clearing the main parking lot.
Family members can attend the parade route but should refrain from going on school property and adhere to social distancing guidelines (i.e. wear face masks and 6-ft apart)
Social Distancing Considerations and Safety Expectations
All staff, parents, and students must wear a mask to adhere to safety guidelines.
Students can take off their masks to take a picture and must put them back on after the picture is taken
Parents will open their trunks (at the Luce Bus Loop) to ensure a contactless distribution of materials. If you do not have a trunk release, please allow the staff member to open and close your trunk for you.
Hugging or close contact will not be permitted at any time during this day.
During the parade route, all children must stay safely in their cars.
The following behavior will not be permitted:
Hanging out of windows and or sunroofs;
Sitting in the back of pick-up trucks
Any other behavior that is deemed inappropriate or unsafe
At no time will parents or other family members get out of the vehicle during the 5th-grade promotion.
***Nurse Warren will be on-site to distribute medications to families.***
Chrome Book Delivery
Parents/Guardians,
As the school year is coming to a close, I want to provide you with the details for the upcoming student loaner Chromebook collection. This collection is for any Chromebook that was loaned to students for either the school closure/remote learning deployment or the Canton High School Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. I sincerely hope that access to a device provided support to your child during this school year and specifically during school closure.
We have scheduled the return dates for the loaned devices as follows:
Tuesday, June 23rd, 12 pm - 2 pm
Wednesday, June 24th, 10 am - 12 pm
Thursday, June 25th, 8 am - 10 am
The collection will take place at Canton High School and we will be using a similar format for collection as we did for distribution.
Pull into the main loop at Canton High School (entrance by the tennis courts). Place a sign in the passenger window with the name(s) of each of your children that borrowed a Chromebook. Please have the Chromebook(s) AND charger(s) accessible in your trunk. A staff member will retrieve it upon your arrival.
All borrowed Chromebooks and chargers must be returned to Canton Public Schools on one of the collection dates listed above.
Lastly, I would like to publicly thank the Technology and Digital Learning Team for all their hard work. They prepared and deployed over 550 Chromebooks to our students and offered support to students and families, as well as staff, during these last few months. I am incredibly proud to work with such an amazing group of staff members committed to supporting our school community.

In-person and remotely, you have jumped into activities that have allowed you to stay physically active and reach the goals that are on our 5 posters. I am so impressed by how you stayed strong and never gave up! Keep this up, always. Continue running, jumping, throwing, catching, dancing, twisting, playing with others, creating ways to move, being great leaders, and listening to feedback!
I will close the year, virtually, telling you that I am SO proud and thankful for the work you have put into finding ways to move your body and always giving your personal BEST! Missing you all and looking forward to getting right back where we left off in the fall! Happy Summer!

The Luce SHINE Slide Is Coming in August!!!
This past week, we had staff and students vote on the colors of the slide; the results are in!
Our Luce SHINE slide will be the following colors:
- Enclosing at the top: Yellow 44.6%
- Slides: Blue 55%
- Landing at the Bottom: Black 53.1%
We can't wait to see our brand new slide in September!
