Happy Friday PHMS Students and Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful week and we can not wait to see all of our In-Person students back in the hallways this Tuesday, Jan 19th! Along with all In-Person students returning this week, we have a jammed packed week of amazing events and activities for our students. I know there is A LOT of information below, but every bit is super important, so please check it all out!

This week the PHMS Counseling Department is putting on "Future You" week with some great activities and information. Each day the students will gain insight on what they can do after graduating from high school. We are excited to share and learn about what the future can hold for our students. Below is an overview of the Spirit Days we will have each day and we hope everyone will participate.

Tuesday: Dress like a college student (PJ day)
Wednesday: Dress like your future career day
Thursday: Warrior Wear Day
Friday: College Swag Day

Also, our Counselors have some amazing information in regards to FREE Virtual Tutoring for our students and an upcoming parent seminar titled: “Helping your Teen Overcome Anxiety and Depression”, parents, you can’t afford to miss this! More information is found in the WW Newsletter under the “Counseling Corner “section.

We also have Picture Retakes this Friday at school. If you are Remote Student you can come up to the school anytime throughout the day and get your picture taken or redone as well. More info on picture day and online ordering is also found in the Weekly Warrior Newsletter.

We have the January PHMS Virtual PTO meeting on Thursday the 21st at 5:30pm. Also, that night we are having a pizza night where you can order Hungry Howie’s for dinner and support the PTO. The link for Thursday’s meeting will be updated on the Weekly Warrior soon and the flyer for the Pizza Night is also there and attached to this email as well.

The PHMS Players are proudly presenting the theatrical production: “Season of Light (A Winter Fairy Tale)”, February 4th through the 6th at 7pm at WHS. Tickets are pre-sale only. See the Weekly Warrior Newsletter for all the details.

As we will have more traffic in the morning and afternoon with more In-Person Students coming each day, we ask that you please take time to go over some Parking Lot reminders for the Jan 19th return found in the WW Newsletter. Our goal is to keep everyone safe and thank you for partnering with us.

Thank you for allowing Mrs. Fondaw and myself to lead PHMS and remember we are here for ALL of you, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to either one of us!

Have a great weekend, take care, be safe and remember to always be WARRIOR STRONG!

Mr. Gurganus

REMINDERS FROM LAST WEEKS EMAIL: (Finals, Schedules, Semester Two Info)

Also, this month we wind down the first semester. We have finals at the end of this month on Jan 27th, 28th and 29th. On those days, both 8th and 9th grade students will be taking their assessments and will be dismissed at 10:35am. If you have any questions in regards to specific class finals, please reach out to your child’s teachers. Below are the class periods scheduled for assessments on the days listed above.

Jan 27th (1st and 2nd Hour)
Jan 28th (3rd and 4th Hour)

Jan 29th (5th and 6th Hour)

The second semester will kick off on Monday, Feb 1st. We are in the process of creating the second semester schedules for all students and we are anticipating they should be completed and shared out to everyone no later than the last week of January.

If a change of placement request was made through the survey I sent out in December, those schedule changes are also being completed and the updated “Remote or In-Person” schedules will be available before the end of this month and students will begin their new school settings and schedules at the start of the second semester with all other students on 2.1.2021.

WBSD DAILY STUDENT SCREENER

In order to implement more stringent health screening protocols, we are now expecting that a parent completes the health screener, online, for their child(ren), each day that they are to be in attendance. This is the same process that all employees in the WBSD have been completing.

This is an important requirement for the district to continue our face to face instruction. This screener is similar to the one that we have been asking you to do daily since the beginning of the year. This screener is available on an online platform through a google form application.

The screener can be made available by using this QR code right here >>>>>

Or by clicking this link: https://screener.wbsdweb.com/

Please note that if you answered yes to any of the questions in the screener you will need to keep your child home and follow the guidance provided by the Wayne County Health Department.

Please click on the link or scan the QR code below to connect to the WBSD Student Daily Screener. This screener needs to be completed for every student before they come to in person classes each day. Thank you for your help in making WBSD safe for all students.

PHMS PARKING LOT REMINDERS FOR JAN 19TH RETURN

The main goals for the PHMS Parking Lot are to: ensure all students and drivers are safe and protected as they are dropping off and picking up and that we can get vehicles in and out as quickly and safely as possible. In order to obtain those goals we need everyone to be on the same page and do their part. If we all work together and follow the information below we can make sure the mornings and afternoons are as stress free as possible.

Thank you for doing your part!

Parking Lot Reminders:
* When entering the parking loops for drop off and pick up please ensure you pull into either LANE 1, 2, and 3.

* We ask you to please pull forward in these loops until you reach the last parking cone (LANE 1 and 2) or the car in front of you to ensure that we can get in as many cars as possible.

* When you have pulled up as far as you can we ask that you "Drop where you Stop". This will allow nearly 40 cars at one time to drop off their student which will make the line run quickly and safely.

* When students are "Drop where you Stop" we want to remind all students to walk on the sidewalk and not in the road. If you are dropping in LANE 2 or 3 please use the crosswalk to cross the road with the guidance of our parking lot attendant.

* We do ask that all drivers watch and listen to the parking lot attendant as they will direct you when it is safe to drive past the crosswalk.

During the workshop, you will learn the fundamental tools you need to help support your teen through their mental health struggles. Come prepared to ask questions and openly discuss your teen’s mental health. Zach Westerbeck is a mental health advocate, National speaker, College Success Coach, and author of You’re Not Alone. He was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder in 2016. During that period he experienced severe anxiety, deep depression, and thoughts of suicide. After hitting his rock bottom moment, he sought help and started to recover. Through his recovery process, he became Mental Health First Aid certified and now travels the country educating thousands of students on the fundamentals of mental health and recovery.

There is nothing to sell and nothing to deliver. All monies raised will go directly to serving our students. We are asking for donations from you. While any donation is greatly appreciated, donations of $20.00 per child will allow us to reach our goal. We would greatly appreciate any donation you can make.
