Short Avenue IB Learners Strive to Be...
Mr. Lamb's Updates
Happy Weekend Short Avenue Families and Friends!
This message is coming to you on a Fall Sunday morning, though the heat of the last few days makes me feel like it's still summer. I hope this message finds you all safe with creative ways to stay cool. Being in the Del Rey area certainly has its perks being so close to the water. The breeze that comes through the playground is often just what the students and my staff need. Please make sure you are using sunscreen and staying hydrated if you are outside!
We have completed about 8 weeks and I have been your Proud Principal for almost 3 months. I continue to assess where we are as a school academically and operationally. I have shared in previous messages much that we can celebrate. Today I acknowledge the good while highlighting that we have room to grow.
We are currently at about 91% of families who have shared the Home Income Form that is part of the More Than a Meal Campaign. I thank those who have already completed this task. This form has a link shared every week in the Weekly Wave. This form can be completed in just a few minutes. The district will determine future funding for Short Avenue not based solely on the information provided but on the participation rate in completing the form. Our office is calling that last 9%. Please help us get to 100% and please help us support Short Ave.
The Parent Portal is a district tool that allows families to update student information, utilize district applications, and receive information from the district. We currently have 72% of families registered. ALL families need to be registered. 81% of our families not on the Parent Portal are in UTK, Kindergarten, or 1st grade. An email went home today with directions on how to register. Information needed to complete registration was sent home previously. Please call the office if you need support but we need ALL 100% of our families on this system.
Last but definitely not least, is Attendance. We have an Attendance Team looking at our student attendance to analyze our data, look for trends, and to reach out to families to support. Our goal is 98% or better attendance in the school year. This means a student can only miss 7 days or less in an entire school year. We will begin reaching out to families soon to see how we can support them. I encourage all families to make adjustments to departure times and morning routines so that more and more of our students are on time daily and our line of late arrivals can dwindle to zero.
Most weeks we are here to celebrate but there are times when we need to be real about how we will continue to grow and improve Short Ave Elementary. I truly appreciate our community and our willingness to come together at wonderful community events like the Fiesta Truck event last week and our coming Dolphin Cafe & School-wide Assemblies this Friday. It is my humble ask and hope that we can also come together to improve attendance and get to 100% on our asks. All of these pieces are a part of the beautiful tapestry that is Short Ave!
As always, please be safe. And please enjoy the rest of your weekend.
See you Monday!
