Holocaust Survivor Speaks to 8th Grade Students
To support Mrs. San Martin and Mrs. Truong's Holocaust unit, Mrs. Murray worked with the Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio to arrange for Holocaust survivor George Fodor to share his story with 8th grade students in an assembly.
At the age of 12, Fodor and his family were forced from their home and sent to numerous concentration camps in Hungary, Austria and Czechoslovakia. In his powerful testimony, he explained that although it is difficult for him to speak about his personal experiences, he feels it is his responsibility so that the pain and suffering of all the victims and survivors is never forgotten and that people can learn from the mistakes of the past.
As a sign of thanks and appreciation, at the end of the assembly, Fodor was presented with a plant and an original piece of artwork made by 8th grade student Katy Martinez which included the following quote, “Thou shalt not be a victim, thou shalt not be a perpetrator, but, above all, thou shalt not be a bystander.–Yehuda Bauer.”
In addition to the beautiful art piece, students, parents, and faculty also made donations to the Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio, totaling $337.
