Student Handbook

Please see the message sent by Superintendent Myers on August 1 regarding the update to our student handbook:

Dear Students, Parents, Guardians, and Community Members:

On behalf of the Millbury Public Schools’ faculty and administration, I am pleased to introduce the 2022-2023 District-Wide Student Handbook, which has been reformatted to a single document in order to ensure consistency and ease of access for families.

The handbook is divided into four sections: the first section addresses policies and procedures that apply to all three schools and all of our students, grades PK - 12; the other three sections address school and grade-specific expectations and are organized under the headings, “Elmwood Street Elementary,” “Raymond E. Shaw Elementary,” and “Millbury Memorial Jr./Sr. High School.”

Guided by our district’s school’s core values and beliefs about student learning, we hope this handbook will serve as a helpful guide and resource for our students and their families. It contains important information about the policies, laws, and operating procedures that govern our District and ensures the structure and consistency necessary for a safe and supportive learning environment.

Please take a moment to review both the District-wide section of this handbook and your child’s school-specific section and please refer to them whenever you have questions throughout the year. We will ask that you confirm receipt of this handbook on a form that will be sent home as part of your child's new school year paperwork later this month.

Do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers, principal, or assistant principal if you have any questions about this handbook.

Sincerely,

Gregory Myers
Superintendent of Schools

From the Guidance Department

Hello from the Guidance Department,

We hope you have been enjoying your summer! Our schedule is ready for students to view. Students’ schedule will have the same format as previous years; a rotating schedule where they meet 5 periods a day and 2 classes are dropped. If your child is a current student of Millbury Memorial Jr./Sr. High School, they should be able to use their Aspen login to access their schedule. If your child is new to MMJSHS (including 7th-grade students), please request a Parent login through Diane Dearborn in the guidance office by using the Google form on the Student and Families tab on the High School website. Students will get their Aspen login as well as other important school specific information in the first week of school.

Students will be able to request changes via email or they can make an appointment starting the week of August 22, 2022 with their individual counselor, our guidance department administrative assistant, when guidance counselors return to school. Per usual, we will not be making appointments on Monday, the 22nd, as it is our first day back and we have pre-scheduled meetings for the duration of the day. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will be prioritizing any student who has an empty spot in their schedule, as well as students that are new to the district.

Any student who has a full schedule but would like to change their courses can make appointments for Thursday and Friday. Please do not come to the school without an appointment, as our space and availability will be extremely limited.

We have some great news… an addition to our Department, Ms. Ashlee Cabral, will be joining the Guidance staff at the junior-senior high school. Many may remember Ms. Cabral from last year, as she filled in as a long-term substitute for us. We are so excited to have her back!

Please see the chart below to see who your child’s counselor is for the school year.

The direct line to the Guidance Department is (508) 865-5843. Counselor emails addresses are:

Ashlee Cabral - acabral@millburyschools.org

Taryn Holman - tholman@millburyschools.org

Maryellen Courtney - mcourtney@millburyschools.org

Heidi Desautels - hdesautels@millburyschools.org

Stephanie DeLucia - sdelucia@millburyschools.org

Ann Meservey - ameservey@millburyschools.org

Diane Dearborn - ddearborn@millburyschools.org

We will work to return calls and emails as efficiently as possible. As always, thank you so much for your understanding. We can’t wait to see you!

Guidance Counselors back on Monday, August 22

Our guidance department members will be returning on Monday, August 22. Students can begin to schedule appointments with their counselors by reaching out to them directly. Meetings with students will begin on August 23, 2022.
Big picture

Add/Drop Period ends Wednesday, September 14

Students who are looking to alter their schedule have a two-week period to make any adjustments. Students should reach out to their respective guidance counselors starting the week of August 16.

**Please note that this does not apply to any AP course, as our students were provided with a separate add/drop window for these courses. This window expired on July 8th, 2022. This information was shared out prior to the conclusion of the 2021-2022 school year and specifically referenced in our AP contracts which students and parents/guardians signed to allow access to the courses.

Family ID Docs

Starting in the 2021-2022 school year, Millbury Junior-Senior High School transitioned the majority of our registrations (athletics), parent/guardian signature pages (student handbook, authorization to photograph), 1:1 device sign-outs, etc. to the online platform in order to streamline the collection of these documents and materials.

Many families that have students participating in athletics are familiar with this platform, which is extremely user-friendly.

We ask that once we are live with our school launch page, ALL families create an online account on this platform, prior to the start of school, as this is how we will be collecting documents moving forward. ***If you have previously done this, then you simply need to log into the platform using your login information.

Please click the link for a more comprehensive outline of Family ID, how it will be utilized, and how to create an account. ** Again, we are not officially live yet, but a connect-ed message will be sent once the page is active and live for registrations.
