For Week 11
We had another great week! Science was fun this week with exploring the parts of a flower. I encourage you to collect different flowers and see if you and your children can identify different parts at home. The Amaryllis Flower is the easiest flower to identify. I see great improvement in our children playing the tin whistle. Keep it up.
Continue to trace and draw those maps at home. We are up to 257. I would like to see if we can reach 300 by week 12. Remember you can trace the blob maps, trace the trivium maps, and draw free hand. The idea is to get our kids to become comfortable with map drawing so eventually they can draw places from memory.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. Colossians 3:23
For Week 11:
Family Presentations - The Sommerville Family
Playground Duty - Craig/Kirkeby
Suggested Oral Presentations:
Your choice WHO gave it to you? WHAT does it look like? WHERE/WHEN did you get it? WHY do you like it? Bring props if you like.
Journeymen/Masters: Persuasive Speech (2-3 min)
Choose a topic that you feel strongly about. Create a presentation designed to “persuade” your audience to change their beliefs or behavior in some way. Use Monroe’s Motivated Sequence Speech Topics to write your speech: ATTENTION-Get the attention of your public. State the importance the problem. NEED-State the need for change. Show why it should concern them. Relate the issue or problem to the values, attitudes, interests and needs of the listeners. SATISFACTION-Satisfy their needs. Provide the details and interesting facts of your plan. Show how your solution works. VISUALIZATION-Visualize the benefits. That is the heart of your motivational speech topic. Illustrate them with examples, anecdotes, comparisons, statistics, definitions and visual aids. Share success stories. Tell your audience what's in it for them. ACTION-Call to action. Tell your audience what you want them to do
Skill: Keyword Outline Instead of reading your speech word for word, make a keyword outline when giving your presentation.
