AFSA K-12 School Supply Lists
K-12 Tax Benefits - Save Receipts for School Supplies!
Minnesota Revenue offers two valuable tax benefits for parents who purchase school supplies for their K-12 students, the K-12 Education Credit and Subtraction. These benefits can reduce parents’ taxes to increase their refund, but is only available for those who keep their receipts. Purchases for most school supplies, field trips, and musical instruments for school band are eligible.
Most Minnesota parents qualify for the K-12 subtraction, which reduces their taxable income. Parents under certain income limits may also qualify for the K-12 credit, which can refund up to 75% of their costs – even for parents who don’t owe any taxes. Visit the Minnesota Revenue website for details.
See flyer attached to this newsletter.

AFSA K-12's Potato Hug
Attention - Students in grades 7-12, AFSA K-12 Families and community members! We are looking for student vendors, outside vendors and sponsors!
We invite you to our 9th Annual Potato Hug, October 8, 2022 , 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at AFSA High School! The Hug is a showcase of student projects (grades 7-12), student artwork (grades K-12), school offerings, and community involvement.
This event provides students a venue to display their FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects. Students design an entrepreneurial experience, research project, exploratory project, internship, or service type activity. Each project is an opportunity for students to demonstrate professionalism, develop entrepreneurial skills, and showcase their hard work. Students independently fund their own projects and track their own income and expenses as part of their SAE.
When the Potato Hug was created, we envisioned a collaboration between adult vendors and student vendors. We realize how important these relationships have truly become! These vendors/mentors have empowered our students toward greater projects and entrepreneurialism. We are looking for adult vendors who create locally handmade products, to sell their products, interact with and mentor our students on Hug day.
As hosts for the annual Potato Hug, the AFSA FFA Alumni is asking individuals and corporations to support our sponsorship program. Through this program we will support the AFSA FFA Chapter with the following:
- Scholarships for students to attend the National FFA Convention
- Scholarships for AFSA schools O-term and J-term
- Membership in the AET program (All AFSA students track their FFA, academic, community, and extracurricular activities toward achieving their FFA degrees with the AET program.)
We are excited to continue this annual tradition at AFSA and appreciate your consideration to support our students through this event. If you are interested in being a sponsor or vendor/mentor please see the attached PH Sponsor form.
Students (grades 7-12) interested in participating in the Potato Hug 2022 must register using the attached PH SAE Sign up form. Forms may be picked up at both of the Back to School picnics or in the main office at both buildings. All student registration forms must have approval from Ms. Leiding or Ms. Crowley. Approval may be through email or in person signature.
We are also looking for adults to volunteer on Potato Hug day! This is a fun way to get involved and meet other families. We are looking for people to help in the kitchen, at the greeting table and more!
Please contact Stephanie Forliti if you are interested in being a vendor or volunteer or if you have any questions about the Potato Hug event!
Thank you!
