Week Ahead @Southview
Week of September 30th, 2019
We Are One
On Monday, September 30th, we are encouraging students and staff to wear an orange shirt. Orange Shirt Day is in recognition of First Nations students at residential schools across Canada. Orange Shirt Day was inspired by Phyllis Jack Webstad, a Stswecem'c Xgat'tem First Nation elder in Williams Lake, B.C., and by her first day at residential school in 1973, when she was six. Schools in the Limestone District School Board will recognize this day in support of the Truth and Reconciliation Committee's Calls to Action to support residential school survivors and their families. Teachers will be sharing this message in age appropriate ways including reading mentor texts written by Indigenous authors that share a message of kindness, acceptance, inclusion and reconciliation. We will promote the message that Every Child Matters, in a small step towards reconciliation. At 1:20 on Monday, our whole school will walk together around the large field with buddy classes. We will use this as a time to connect with Mother Earth and reflect on the importance of every person, and that we all matter. We look forward to seeing our school in Orange.
Students and staff are excited to support the Terry Fox Run event Thursday, October 3rd from 12:00-1:00 at our school. We appreciate all the work of our Youth Access West class to prepare the route with inspirational signs and messages. Our walls are decorated with coloured running shoes prepared by students with their heroes, dedications and inspirational messages. We are proud of this amazing tradition at our school and we are thrilled that to date, over the last 6 years, we have raised over $21,400 for cancer research! Any amount of donation is greatly appreciated as we work towards our school goal of raising $4000. If the school goal is reached, rumour has it Mrs. Boutlier and Mrs. Borges will be taped to the wall during our reveal assembly AND the top fundraiser will get to be Principal for the morning with Mrs. Borges! The donation link is below for your convenience.
Here's to another great week ahead at Southview!

Parent Council Update
Hot Lunch ordering is officially open for October, orders are due October 4 at noon! The rest of the year will be available in the next week. Please note: late orders will not be accepted.
Our new fundraising coordinators are Melissa Meisner and Amanda Morrison. If you have questions or concerns going forward please direct questions to them, or Megan Macdonald and myself, Amber Meyer Dunn.
Over the past few years, parents have made the amazing decision to "donate" lunches if their kids are sick to other kiddos at our school who do not otherwise get the opportunity to have hot lunch. Teachers send the lunches back to the servery and we leave it with our school lunch program organizer to hand out. If this doesn't work for your family please contact us to make other arrangements. All proceeds from hot lunches go directly back into our school.
Our school is so lucky to have the volunteers to make hot lunch available on Mondays and Fridays. Monday options are from The Catering Company. Friday options are from Pauls Pizza, Deli Fritz, Spuds, and Bar Burrito. We will also have special days with Milkshakes, and a Hot Dog fundraiser for Project Warm Toes.
We also have options for Gluten Free and verified Peanut Free facilities. If your kiddos have dietary requirements please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate: southviewsac@gmail.com
To order hot lunch please visit southview@hotlunches.net. The site will prompt you to select your children's new teachers. For those who are new to our hot lunch program (or who need a refresh) please see the attached document that will give you step by step instructions.
Hurray for Hot Lunch Days!!! I know I'm not the only one that can't wait for easier lunch prep. Sorry for the long post, lots of information to share
