Duffle Delight! How to build relationships and a strong business, even if there are backorders. :)
I mean, look at how great these bags are! Of course they are a great selling special! You guys have done such a great job advertising and partying that our customers are ordering these at DOUBLE the projected amount. That is so great for your business because we are connecting with more people and building momentum.
Now here is what these means for your business and how to handle these projections. You will want to check the business update to get the latest information on when your items will be expected to ship. You can find that from the home page of TOT (Thirtyonetoday.com). You will notice that the items purchased after 4/14/14 will be shipped later then normal. The expected ship date of these items is around 6/5/14. I've heard from Cindy herself that these items will be in the warehouses shortly and we may even be under promising to overdeliver so you can feel confident in this date.
What does this mean for customers who have already ordered?
This means they have impeccable taste and picked the most popular pattern! She will be so thrilled to get her hands on this exclusive bag and a small delay will be so worth it. When the party is delivered to you or your hostess you can give her the current items with a note that says:
"Your _____ was so popular we had to make more! You will be so happy with this exclusive bag that will be delivering to you in about ___ weeks. Please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding this order at _______. Thank you for your continued support of my small business! I truly appreciate you!"
That's it. Don't make a big deal out of something that is a short wait. Remember, there is never a purse emergency.
You may have a customer that is unhappy with the wait and this is where your customer service skills get to shine! Statistically speaking, when you resolve a problem for a customer in a positive manner, she is actually MORE likely to shop with you again. She remembers your extra effort and appreciates your attention to her needs. Use this opportunity to build the relationship. You may offer to send her a small gift of your appreciation for her patience (key fob, etc.), 10% her next order (remember you make 25% commission so you are still making money) or even offer to exchange for a different item. If this items was a gift, you could even send her a "gift certificate" with a picture of the item so she can still 'wrap' the present.
What does this mean for the remainder of your April parties?
It means to party on and Pre-Sale the duffles! You can still continue to book and hold parties for April. Cindy herself has assured us that Home Office has ordered enough that if we sell as many as the first half of April we will be perfectly fine!
Here are some words to use at the party:
"So let me tell you something about this amazing All Pro Tote. It has been so popular that EVERYONE wants one and we actually had to make more of them! It will only be available this month so you want to make sure to grab yours today. Especially for just $25! We are going to place your orders today and you can expect these to ship a few weeks after your other items."
Here are some words to say at checkout:
"I see that you ordered the Pro Duffle in black cross pop. You'll be so happy with this choice. I'll go ahead and mark you down for a pre-order for the next shipment. These will arrive about ___ weeks after the other items. I just want to make sure we aren't ordering a present. ;) (If it is, then say, "Well, do you want me to send you a picture so you still have something to wrap?")
There you go! It's all in your delivery with your customers. It truly is not a big deal and you'll find that most of your customers will be okay. Again, use this as an opportunity to show them why YOU are THEIR Thirty-One consultant and why they shop with YOU!
And your May paycheck will thank you for continuing to focus on the great April special. The new catalog can wait and they May special can wait. Don't get too ahead of yourself! Let's finish our Duffle Delight with a BANG!
I still got plenty of parties to go for April and I'll be doing a Duffle Shuffle all they way there. (Ok, I just crossed the corny line. Someone make me stop!)
