This Week in Kindergarten

We have had another great week in Kindergarten! Our days are full of learning and students are getting use to the rigor of the curriculum. They are working so hard and eager to do their best. We continue to be busy learning proper letter formation and letter sounds. By the end of the nine weeks, your child should be able to identify all capital and lower case letters and their letter sounds!

In reading we have talked about retelling a story and in writing students are learning strategies to sound out words. Students can stretch out words and even use sound boxes at home to help them hear and record sounds.

In math, students have explored counting and recording number 11-20. This is a very difficult skill for some students. Please go over this at home. Students have learned how to count and scoot, count and touch, count and cross out, and how to use a ten frame.

Assessments Coming Up

Next week students will be assessed in the areas of

*counting to 100 by 1's

*counting to 100 by 10's

*touching and counting objects 1:1 to 20

*letter identification

*letter sounds

*identifying their address, city, county (Gwinnett) state (Georgia), country (United States) and continent (North America)

Please go over these skills at home so that your child is ready for their assessment.
