Joyfully Embracing Our Mission

Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
We, the St. Clare School Community, joyfully embrace the Gospel mission entrusted by Christ to His Church.
Believing that everyone is made in the image and likeness of God, we cherish and celebrate our diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Dear St. Clare School Families,
No disciple is superior to the teacher;
but when fully trained,
every disciple will be like his teacher.
~ Luke 6
This weekend's scripture selections are chock full of lessons about humility. They remind to keep things in perspective and to practice empathy. More importantly, they resonate with our responsibility as parents (biological, adopted or in the case of teachers, staff and administrators at St. Clare School, in loco parentis). Our responsibility is both awesome and daunting; one that must be taken seriously and with great care, to prepare for a future not our own.
HONING OUR CRAFT: LEARNING ABOUT HOW OUR LEARNERS LEARN
Today, St. Clare teachers joined with teachers from Most Holy Trinity immersed in "Experience Dyslexia" where we engaged in activities that simulated situations experienced by students who learn differently. The biggest take-away for our teachers is an awareness of the impact of our words, actions and reactions. Experiencing frustration when completing a seemingly simple task helped us gain greater empathy towards learners who may struggle with reading, writing or listening. The simulation will make our practice even more student-centered.
ANNUAL BENEFIT EARNS $20,000+ FOR ST. CLARE SCHOOL
Many thanks to the hard work of our parents and the support and talent of our teachers and students, the evening of fun and camaraderie resulted in a pretty good sum for our school. We are so very grateful for your generosity!
A MESSAGE FROM THE FESTIVAL COMMITTEE
It’s that time of year again to talk FESTIVAL, a beloved event that is not just a fun time for all, but also a great support for our St. Clare Community. Over the last 4 years, the FESTIVAL raised $75,000 for St. Clare School and an equal amount for St. Clare Parish. This is much needed funding that helps to fill the financial gap for both institutions. We are hoping to continue this tradition of assistance for our school and parish. Mark your calendar for June 7, 8, 9 and be ready for the FUN, the FOOD and the FESTIVITIES!
Be on the lookout for communication coming from your Room Reps and for volunteer opportunities. Join us to help make this the best year ever!
JOIN US FOR MASS TOMORROW | 6th Grade Leads in Ministry
This has been a faith-filled week for our 6th graders who have led morning prayer every day this week. Tomorrow, they will lead in ministry for our monthly school mass. Congratulations to the students and Ms. McCormick for preparing them well!
MORNING PRAYER
For the past few weeks, our classes have prepared prayers, led us in honoring our flag with the Pledge and a patriotic song and have sent us off with an alliteration. This has given our students a chance to be front and center, practicing leadership skills and exhibiting what they have learned as Catholic school students. It's a pleasure to see each student's personality shine with their contributions each morning. Well done, St. Clare!
END OF THE TRIMESTER: Focus on Personal Growth in Trimester 3
Monday is the start of our third and final trimester of 2018-19. Where has time gone? Ask your students how much they have grown (in height and in knowledge); what they know now that they didn't know in September; and how much kinder they are now than when they first started this year.
Focus is always on growth: as a person, as a learner, as child of God. Work with student on growing in kindness towards self and others, especially to those to whom it may be a challenge. Small, incremental growth is best: celebrate successes in this regards and reflect on how to be even kinder.
Join our teachers in observing what essential habits need to be formed. Are our students showing respect? Are they polite? Are they forgiving of self and others? Do they stand up for those who do not have the courage to do so? Are they compassionate? These are values that we expect from our St. Clare students along with humility, kindness and empathy. It takes a village...
On behalf of the faculty and staff, we are grateful for your support in all ways, always. We do feel the love. Today, we enjoyed L&L Hawaiian BBQ courtesy of the Lam Family.
Please continue to spread the good news that is St. Clare. We still have openings in all grades especially for incoming TK-5 and we have a few middle school openings. Tuition Agreements will go out the week of March 11 and the Registration portal (InfoSnap) will open at that time as well. We thank the families who have committed to return in 2019-20. We look forward to continuing this journey with you.
Let's pray for community members who are struggling to make ends meet or experiencing physical or emotional pain. In preparation for the season of Lent, I hope you have some time to reflect on the many blessings we have received, the mercy we have been afforded and answer the call to act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with God.
God's blessings this day and all days,
Mrs. Cecile Mantecon, Principal

Ash Wednesday begins on March 6th
All are welcome to attend the 9:00 school Mass on Ash Wednesday.
Rice Bowls
Students and families of St. Clare School are asked to participate in the CRS Rice Bowl collection. The Rice Bowl collection is an opportunity for us as a parish/school to come together as a community and reflect on what it means to live out our Gospel call to support those most in need throughout our world. Rice Bowls are being sent home with the students. The bowls will be collected on April 17th. If your bowl is filled before that date, please feel free to send it in to the school.
Please send paper money or checks instead of loose change if possible. It’s quite time consuming to count the change. If you are sending a check please make it out to St. Clare School and memo CRS.
Thank you for your sacrifices and your support of those in need.
Gospel Reflection for March 3, 2019 | Luke 6:39-45
There are three lessons from Jesus in this reading. The first lesson is that we alone are not teachers, but blind guides. Only when we are fully trained can we be like the Teacher (Jesus). The second lesson is that we should not attempt to teach or guide others until we have examined ourselves, our ways, and our faults. Jesus points out clearly that we tend to find faults in others, without assessing our own faults, and that makes us unworthy teachers. The final lesson brings together the first and second points – namely that when we are fully trained and self-aware, then and only then can we become the good trees that bear good fruit. In many situations, we are too anxious to judge, too ready to tell others what to do, when the Christian thing to do would be to assess our thoughts, our motivation, our biases, and be considerate and compassionate towards others.
