The HillTop Times September 2023
"We Believe...Success for ALL!"
From Principal Adams
We have had an awesome start to the 2023-2024 school year. Time is surely flying by, but we are ready to embark on our first full month of school. Our Eagles have been steadfast in showcasing their reading and math skills on beginning of year pre-assessments in which that data will be used to guide teachers' instruction to target specific skills during the day. In 4th and 5th grades, students and teachers are super excited about departmentalizing; students having two teachers, one who teachers math/science and the other who teachers language arts/social studies. Our newest Eagles in preschool have successfully settled in their full day routines following their half-day staggered start to get in the swing of things. I am also super excited to share that we have been chosen to partner with Communities in Schools (CIS) of the Midlands. This agency connects identified students and families with community resources that are unique to their individual needs to include wrap around services to attend to the needs of the whole child. Visit https://cisofsc.org/ for more information about this organization.
As we continue to make great strides during this first quarter, daily, on-time attendance is crucial now and throughout the year. Please ensure your child(ren) arrives to school by 7:30 a.m. Car riders are encouraged to begin arriving to school in the early portion of our 7:00-7:30 a.m. time frame as there is significantly less traffic in the car loop.
As always, I appreciate your partnership and support of our Eagles. If you have any questions, concerns, feedback, or suggestions feel free to contact me at shannon.adams@richlandone.org or 803-783-5545.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Car Rider Procedures
All car riders are to be dropped off in the car rider lane on Eagle Road from 7:00 - 7:30 a.m. Cars should travel through the car lane and students should only be released under the awning where staff members are on duty. Students do not need to wait for staff member to open the car door. Car riders are not allowed to be dropped off in the bus lane prior to 7:30 a.m. Students are considered 'Tardy' and must be signed in at the front office if they enter the building after 7:30 a.m. Bringing your child to school in the car rider line in the earlier part of this time frame will ensure they are in the building before 7:30 a.m.
In the afternoons, car riders are to be picked up in the car rider lane. Staff members will begin calling for students promptly at 2:30 p.m. (11:00 a.m. on half days). Cars should loop around Grammar Road to Horrell Hill Road and proceed to the car lane on Eagle Road. Students will not be released to individuals that walk up to the door.
To ensure the safety of our students, we sincerely ask that you adhere to the above procedures. Please do not drop off or ask students to meet you in an undesignated area.
Dismissal Changes/Early Dismissal
If you would like to change how your child gets home, you must communicate that change in writing by 11:00 a.m. We cannot accept dismissal changes by phone. No dismissal changes will be honored after this time as it can not be assured that the change request has been received. Please communicate dismissal changes in writing using one of the following methods:
- Send in a signed note with your child
- Use Class Dojo to send a message to the teacher
- Email the teacher
Remember that our teachers are engaged in learning with children 95% of the day. Therefore, please communicate any change as early as possible and request confirmation.
Early Dismissal ends at 2:00 p.m. daily. At this time, classes are already preparing students for dismissal. No students will be dismissed after this time and will be routed to their normal way of transportation.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served in the cafeteria from 7:00 - 7:30 a.m. If students are eating breakfast at school, please ensure that they arrive prior to 7:30 a.m. with ample time to eat. After this time, students will be able to get a 'grab and go' breakfast and report to class as the instructional day begins promptly at 7:30 a.m.
