Newsletter Naming Contest

This upcoming week we will be holding a contest for students to name our Weekly Newsletter. Suggestions can be submitted by using the Google Form emailed to all students, posted here or by submitting a paper form located in the cafeteria. The contest concludes on January 31st. The winner will be announced on Friday, February 7th.


Progress Reports

Progress Reports that were not picked up during Parent-Teacher Conferences will be sent home with your student. If you did not attend Parent-Teacher Conferences, your child will be coming home with their progress report TODAY, Friday, January 24th. Progress Reports for the Middle School will no longer be mailed. Trimester Report cards will be mailed at the end of the Trimester.

Outstanding People for Education

Do you know someone who has made a difference to a student at Hopkins? Please consider nominating them for the "Outstanding People for Education" Award. Nominations are due by March 1st, 2020.

All students remaining in the building after school hours, including those on the athletic teams, need to be supervised. The Media Center will remain open until 3:30 for students to work on homework. Students who are not in the media center will be asked to leave the building.

If you have concerns over this policy and would be willing to volunteer to supervise students to open up another option for them, please contact me and we can discuss. Thanks!

Girls Winter Soccer Training

Baton Twirling Classes

Come join the fun and learn how to twirl a baton! Baton twirling is making a comeback as the latest and greatest sensation! Don’t miss out on all the fun!

Dates: Every Tuesday beginning February 4th and ending May 26th

Times: Ages 4-7, 6:30-7:15 p.m. Ages 8-18, 7:15-8:00 p.m.

Registration: On February 4th at the first class. [In the event class is canceled the first week because of bad weather, the class will begin the following week. Check www.athleticsensations.com or call 616-460-1747 for cancellation information.]

Location: The Hall at Overisel Reformed Church, 4201 47th Street, Holland, Michigan, 49423 (The Hall is in a separate building south of the church)

Cost: $8/week to be paid at each class. $7 registration fee to be paid at first class. Batons will be available for purchase at class for $26. Payment plans for batons available: $14 the first week, then $3 each week until paid off.

Students can earn ribbons, medals, & trophies! Our baton twirling classes not only focus on teaching children how to twirl a baton, our classes encourage teamwork, poise, hand-eye coordination, as well as help children build their self-esteem. Students learn baton twirling tricks in class as well as a dance-twirl routine and a parade routine. Students will have an opportunity to be in a competition and parades, including the Grand Rapids Memorial Day Parade. Please call the Middle School office at (269) 793-7407 within 24 hours of your students' absence. You may leave a message on our voicemail system day or night. When reporting illness, please inform the secretary of the type of symptoms your child is experiencing (fever, sore throat, ect.). If your child is absent 2 days or more, you may request homework. If your student is absent only 1 day, homework may be picked up from their teachers the following day. You may also email absences to jennhitc@hpsvikings.org.


Telephones in the office are to be used for illness and emergencies only.


Please report all immunizations that your child has had so we are able to keep our school records up to date. All new students and all 6th graders must be completely up to date on all immunizations. Contact the HMS office if you have any questions.


ALL medications needing to be dispensed to students must be supplied from home. The school does not provide any type of medication. All prescription medication must be provided in a pharmacy labeled bottle. Tylenol/Aspirin must be brought to the office in an unopened bottle. All students requiring any type of medication must have a medication form completed by their parents and on file in the office.

CHANGES in Phone Numbers, Home Address & E-Mail

Please inform the office any time there are changes in your address or phone numbers. We need to have this information so we can update our records and successfully contact you if needed.
