High School Credit Taken during Middle School.....What You Need to Know
- High School credits are no longer factored into class rank, only GPA.
- Students must have earned at least a B- to accept the credit.
- You should have received this information in the mail last week. If you did not, please let a team member know.
- We will continue to accept these as the initial timeline had to be adjusted due to some mail delays.
Information about Semester 2 Schedules
Second Semester Schedules will be Available for Viewing on PowerSchool December 18th
Information About S1 Grades-Reminder from Previous Communication
The only grades that are visible on student transcripts are semester grades, not quarter grades or final grades. Each high school level (freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior) contains two semesters. Semester 1 ends right before Winter Break, and Semester 2 ends at the end of the school year. Semester grades are determined based on the formula below.
Semester 1 Grade
40% Q1 Grade
40% Q2 Grade
20% Grade earned on final
Semester 2 Grade
40% Q3 Grade
40% Q4 Grade
20% Grade earned on final
As you can see, the final grade can have a significant impact on the semester grade which is the reason students often feel some anxiety as the tests approach.
Does Freshman Year Matter?
The freshman year makes up 1/3 of what colleges see when they make admittance decisions. Senior year grades are not on transcripts when students apply to college. Freshman Year COUNTS….a lot!

Credits
Our goal is to have EVERY freshman complete at least 11 credits by the end of this year.
Nobody wants to be credit deficient so know your number!
Frequently Asked Questions
2. What do I do if I need to pick-up my teen during the school day for an appointment? This one can get very tricky, especially if Mrs. Birkofer isn't given advance notice. The best way to ensure your teen is waiting on you when you arrive is to alert Mrs. Birkofer as soon as possible. Tell her the time you would like your teen to be in the office, and she will do her best to make it happen. If you don't give advance notice, expect to wait anywhere from 10-20 minutes, especially if your teen is at lunch.
3. What should I do if my teen forgets something at home? While this shouldn't happen often, items do get forgotten. You are welcome to bring the item to the team office for delivery. Please note that this may not happen right away.
4. How can I help my teen if he/she is struggling in his/her classes? The best source of academic assistance at the high school are our teachers. They are the people who are with your teens daily, and they are the most equipped to provide you with academic support. Mr. McCallum is available to help with strategies and structure, but the teachers are the experts in their fields.
5. How can I help my teen meet new people? BHS has a lot of clubs, sports, and activities from which students can choose. Visit the BHS website and choose the "Clubs" tab located on the left side of the page. Once there you will be able to see a complete list of clubs and sponsors.
6. How can my teen sign up to see a team member (principal, counselor, academic coach)? He/She should stop in the team office. There is a clip board on the counter that is checked by team members frequently. Mrs. Birkofer can help students locate it if necessary.
Lanyards and Electronics
- Lanyards MUST be worn at all times during the school day. Students can get loaners in their team office if they forget. After the 4th lanyard is borrowed, students are assigned an after-school detention with escalating consequences for additional offences.
- Electronics (cellphones, speakers, head buds) MUST be away during the school day except during the students' assigned lunch periods. The first time a cellphone is confiscated, the student can collect it at the end of the day. After that time, parents will have to come to school to collect.
In a school our size, all students won't be caught all of the time, but it's still important for all students to follow the rules.
Students get a fresh start each quarter
Parent Meetings
This is a great time to get answers to questions, prepare for next year, and learn about high school policies and procedures.
