FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear FJVD Families,
We are excited to begin student orientations next week! Teachers have been hard at work throughout the week preparing classrooms, reviewing procedures, and receiving professional development on a wide range of topics. Their efforts in preparing for reopening have been nothing short of heroic. We can't wait to start the year!
In preparation for the start of the year, please take some time to carefully review the following announcements and information:
Student Screening Tool
We are happy to release our Student Symptom Screening Tool which can be found at the following link: https://bit.ly/FJVDStudentScreening
Please note this link is available on the homepage of the school website and can also be copied to your iPhone or Android home screen so that it is always readily available. A reminder that all students must complete the screening tool daily before entering the school building. This includes before arriving for orientations next week. Screenings should be completed on the day in question. Please do not complete the screening tool more than 3 hours in advance of arrival.
Virtual Back to School Night
We will be hosting a Virtual Back to School Night via Zoom Webinar on Monday, August 31st beginning at 6:30pm. The link for this Zoom webinar was emailed to families today.
Topics include COVID related procedures and protocols, review of and progress regarding 2019-2020 academic year goals, scheduling, lunch program, and more!
Please note, if you are not able to attend, a recording of the presentation will be made available.
Documents and paperwork usually provided at Back to School Night, including media permissions, technology acceptable use policies, handbook sign offs, etc. will be provided to students on their orientation days. Please keep an eye out for this paperwork next week!
Reopening Plan Revisions - August 28, 2020
Recent Reopening Plan revisions include:
- Addition of the link to our Student Screening Tool under "Arrival Procedures."
- Addendum to language regarding mask recommendations for Pre-Kindergarten students under "Masks and Social Distancing" (see below)
- Revised Screening Tool sample under Appendix B
At this time, based on guidance regarding safety and stable groups in child care settings, we are recommending pre-kindergarten students wear masks specifically when receiving instructions from teachers outside of their stable group (i.e. music, art, and gym). This only occurs three times per week for short periods. Masks recommendations for Pre-K students at other times remain the same. Please see the Reopening Plan guidance (p. 12) for more information. As previously noted, we must be willing to adapt and amend our reopening plans as guidance continues to evolve.
The most up-to-date version of our Reopening Plan can always be found on the homepage of our school website.
Reopening Schedule - Orientation Days Next Week
As detailed in an email to parents and families last week, our Reopening Schedule includes half day orientations staggered by grade level in the week ahead (September 1st-September 4th). Please be sure to review the full reopening schedule here for more information regarding orientation dates and times.
Please note, all arrival and dismissal procedures, including the use of the Student Screening Tool, will be followed at orientation. Please be sure to review these procedures, as detailed in our Reopening Plan, before arrival at orientation. Not sure where your child should enter the building? View the brief video here.
Finally, Part III of our Reopening Father Doyle series discusses mask protocols. Check out the video below!

Bottle Cap Drive
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This provides new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.
All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.
Thank you!
