Raymond Central Public Schools
July 2020
From the Desk of the Superintendent...
We have made it through June, reopening of the Jr/Sr high School weight room and also the beginning of our coaches and sponsors holding camps and activities at our school sites. I appreciate all of the hard work that is needed to physically distance and disinfect the spaces used by our students and coaches. I feel we have had a smooth transition back into somewhat normal activities with the commitment of our staff and students to the health and safety of themselves and those around them. July 1 is an important day as the state of Nebraska will loosen restrictions for businesses, schools and other activities that were shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As we continue to search for our “new normal”, Raymond Central is in the process of drafting our reopening plan for the 2020-2021 school year. We must not forget our own duty to be “socially responsible” when attending school activities and going out in our communities.
As we prepare for the arrival of staff on August 7 and students on August 12, we are working closely with Three Rivers health Department, Lancaster County Health Department, ESU2, the Nebraska Department of Education, and area schools to ensure that school is as safe as possible. Based on current health directives, this will undoubtedly require us to physically distance, monitor our own health, wash hands often, sanitize, and possibly wear masks as we welcome everyone back to school. I am confident Raymond Central will come up with a plan that puts the safety and health of our students, staff, and community first. This is one of the most challenging issues schools across the nation have had to create as there is no blueprint to follow and each school has its own unique needs. Our goal is to provide the initial draft with the Raymond Central community after the July 15 Board of Education meeting.
Did you know that Raymond Central is providing a Summer Lunch Program for the first time? We are excited to announce that the original plan of three weeks has been extended an additional 5 weeks and will now go through August 7. Pickup and delivery options are available each Monday at 11:30 AM. This is a free service and any student 18 years old and younger is eligible. Please click here to sign up, if you have not already done so. Our Summer Lunch Program was highlighted by the Nebraska Public Schools Advantage in a must read article (click here to read Pandemic Efforts Lead to Summer Lunch Program at Raymond Central). To date, Raymond Central has served 3,310 lunches to our students through the first three weeks of the program!
Enjoy the last month of summer! We will be excited to welcome our students and staff back to our physical school sites in August.
Do Not Forget!
Raymond Central is excited to announce a new partnership with Civic Nebraska and the RC Foundation. Over the course of two years, RC and the RC Foundation researched how to create and implement a before and after school program for our district. At first the idea was to try and create a program on our own, until we met Civic Nebraska. Civic Nebraska has a large footprint in providing before and after school programs in Lincoln and Omaha. Raymond Central will be the first rural model for the organization with the hope to expand into more communities. The program will be an extension of the school day with a focus on academic support, student enrichment, physical activity, and more! Go Mustangs!

Notes from Mr. Gralheer...
- The reopening of our facilities is underway. We began allowing students into our building on June 1 for general workouts. We exercised precaution with temperature checks, waiver forms, limited group sizes, and proper spacing.
- On July 1 we will move to the next phase where we will allow organized 7-12 activities to utilize our space for open gym, camps, and clinics. We still require temperature checks and waiver forms, but will see a relaxation in group size limitations. These decisions have been made based on the guidance from Governor Ricketts, NSAA, NDE, and our local health departments.
- Beginning in the Fall of 2020, Raymond Central will begin the implementation of a Student Drug Testing Program. Policy 5306 was passed by the Board of Education in January 2020 (CLICK HERE for more information)

Summer Lunch Program Extended!
As a reminder, when you pick up your child’s food it will be packaged for the entire week. To save on refrigerator space, the food service department has ordered larger milk containers to limit the large amount of pint size milks we would have to handout.
Please complete the survey to sign up for the extended weeks for the remainder of summer by clicking here.
If you have any changes or updates to your order, please contact Cheryl Rieck at the District Office either by phone (402-785-2615) or by email (crieck@rcentral.org).
Thanks again for your participation in our first Summer Lunch Program!
