Minnesota Facts
1. Our first school teacher is Harriot Bishop.
2. Hans Mattson led a group of fellow Swedish immigrants to find a new home in Minnesota.
3. Henry Sibley became our territorial representative in 1849.
4. Alexander Ramsey became governor in 1849.
5. In 1851 the Dakota signed the treaty of Traverse des Sioux and Mendota.
Fort Snelling
Fort Snelling is very important. One of the reasons it is important is because it protects the local fur trade from the British. Another reason it is important is that it helps keep peace.
Henry Sibley
Henry Sibley was the man who we sent to washington to ask congress to make Minnesota a legal territory. In 1849, we appointed Henry Sibley as our elected delegate for congress. Henry Sibley even helped at the signing of the treaty of traverse des Sioux.
Traveling to Minnesota
I feel that the best way to travel to Minnesota is by train. Take the train all the way to Galena. Once you hit the steamboat station take that the rest of the way. For the final stretch I would take the ox and cart.
