Sawnee Elementary
March 2023 Newsletter
A Note from Mrs. Davis
Dear Sawnee Families,
March is an exciting month for us. We had Read Across America Week last week to kick off the month. This week is Exceptional Children's Week with Family Connect Night on Wednesday. Our Honor Chorus will be performing at FoCAL on Wednesday as well. March 9th is a half day for students and no school on Friday, March 10th. Saturday, March 11th is our Father/Daughter Date Night. Staff Appreciation Week is March 20th - 24th. The West Family Fest is March 25th. Whew! All that and then Spring Break! It takes a true partnership to make all of this happen, so thank you.
If you have or know someone who has a rising kindergarten student, please be sure to check out the FCS website for registration information. We will be conducting tours and screening in May. Stay tuned!
Please remind your students to check the Lost and Found in both buildings. We are gathering quite a collection, especially with this ever changing weather. We know those items will be happy to be reunited.
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to give feedback, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. It is a pleasure to work with all of our families.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Davis
Principal

What's Happening at Sawnee?
7 Mindsets - 100% Accountable
The 100% Accountable Mindset teaches the importance of being responsible for our own happiness and success. Being 100% Accountable means deciding not to be victims of the past and recognizing that the future is not predetermined, so our lives are what we choose in the present moment and each moment moving forward. In these lessons, we help students focus on recognizing our fears and excuses. This mindset is about the importance of breaking down barriers and taking responsibility for our thoughts and actions. It also allows us to free our minds and focus our energy on taking the critical steps toward our goals.
The 4 critical components of 100% Accountable are:
1. Own your Life
2. Overcome Limiting Beliefs
3. Focus Your Energy
4. Grow through Life

Cafeteria News
Root Vegetables such as Carrots, Beets, and Radishes
Root vegetables all grow under ground.
Carrots are best known for being rich in beta carotene, a compound that may reduce heart disease and certain types of cancer, and Vitamin A, which bolsters vision, bone growth and tooth development. Wild carrots are grown in a variety of colors from white to purple.
One of the best things about beets is that they’re high in folic acids, which protect against birth defects.
Radishes are related to wasabi, a type of horseradish, which in paste form is served with sushi.
Clinic News
**Please remember Forsyth County School’s policy that students are NOT to return to school until fever free, diarrhea, and/or vomiting has stopped for a full 24 hours without medication
Just a reminder that all medication needs to be brought to the clinic by a parent/guardian. Students are not permitted to carry medication at school per Forsyth County School Policy.
Forsyth County Schools are in need of Substitute Nurses. If you are a RN or LPN and would like more information, please contact Nurse Robyn or Nurse Kate. We would love to have you!
We always welcome your calls and emails. Nurse Robyn (PreK-1) RFreeze@forsyth.k12.ga.us and Nurse Kate (2-5) F36415@forsyth.k12.ga.us

~ School Attendance is very important to the success of each student.
Sawnee Elementary has a “Strive for Less than Five” unexcused absence per year policy. We support every student in reaching his/her greatest potential and encourage parents to support children in maximizing academic instruction opportunities. Some of the potential consequences of absenteeism are listed below. We understand that injuries and illness occur. As such, parents should send in a doctor's note for necessary absences.
