NJHS Membership
Students were given applications to join the Prestwick Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society on Friday, January 10th. They were selected based on their academic performance and behavior.
Membership in NJHS is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a student. Our chapter strives to give practical meaning to the society’s standards of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character.
Completed applications are due by January 31st. If your child needs help with the application process or has questions, please come and ask us! We are excited to welcome these new members into our society!

Prestwick LEarns: Letting students track and lead learning
As students enter school we see this as well when they get up the courage to walk into class "all by themselves." In the classroom they love the chances to get materials, be a class helper and even choose how they can show us what they know. More importantly we see their confidence emerge when they get to be the scientist of the week or teach a fellow student something they know.
As students get even older, we see this in students ability to gain acceptance into clubs, athletic teams and be mentors to younger students. In the gaming world this pleasure comes from gaining status via points and or badges of honor. Yet at the root it all comes back to students being in the driving seat of their learning.
Most recently it was such a pleasure to see 8th graders, Dylan and Kenan, explaining concepts to the class. Also watching students excitement as they earned badges for reaching their growth goals on the winter Science MAP test. Our ability to capitalize on times like this helps make learning the most meaningful experiences learners each and every day. We are committed to students being both proud to learn and proud of all they know. Their expertise makes our classrooms a great learning community. Thank you for sharing your learners with us!
