Kick off to Kindergarten
Quad concerts canceled due to COVID-19 concerns
Due to the ongoing challenges of COVID-19, we are not able to bring music students from all levels together for our annual quad rehearsals and concerts.
Traditionally, these concerts feature Elementary, Middle and High school students sharing music together, and performing with and for one another. It is a great opportunity for families to see the progression of music groups throughout the grade levels.
Currently, we are able to have middle and high school performances, following state and district COVID-19 mitigation guidelines.
Elementary performances are still on hold, but all mitigation guidelines are being followed in classes. We hope to open up performances for Elementary students soon and are looking forward to quad concerts next year!
Former School Board Director takes on new leadership role
Ann McMurray, who served as an Edmonds School District School Board Director for 16 years, was appointed Northwest Educational Service District 7 Representative on Jan. 26, 2022.
The NWESD provides a centralized point for the set of services and information relevant to 35 school districts offering K-12 education in Washington. McMurray and former Board Director Susan Phillips, the District 8 Representative, share Mukilteo and Edmonds School District boundaries.
McMurray replaces Claudia Buxton, who served as the District 7 Representative for seven years.
Congratulations, Ann!

Submissions are due March 22 and will be evaluated by a panel of National Geographic photographers, explorers and visual artists.

Happy Lunar New Year and year of the Tiger!
To celebrate one of the most important holidays celebrated by Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean descendants, Edmonds-Woodway High School students in Ms. Chi’s Mandarin Chinese classes created art to decorate the halls of their school. They also created a Lunar New year resource page for students and teachers who are interested in Asian culture: https://bit.ly/EWHSLNY
May the Year of the Tiger bring us strength, good health, and happiness!
Meadowdale High School: Art and poetry on display at Cascadia Art Museum
You might think it’s a stretch to link Japanese American painter Kenjiro Nomura with a high school English class, but students in Ms. Ersfeld’s class at Meadowdale High drew inspiration from the painter and their work is sharing space with his exhibition at Cascadia Art Museum in Edmonds.
Tucked away at the back of the museum, hanging below a colorful display of origami cranes are student-written haikus, inspired by Kenjiro Nomura’s art and the words and work of Martin Luther King, Jr.
The museum’s exhibition, “Kenjiro Nomura, American Modernist: An Issei Artist’s Journey,” will end Sunday, Feb. 20, The Day of Remembrance. This commemorates the signing of Executive Order 9066 which began the incarceration of people of Japanese descent.
For more information about The Day of Remembrance event at the museum, check the Cascadia Art Museum website: www.cascadiaartmuseum.org/
