Happy Hispanic Heritage Month from the Superintendent
With Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations ongoing throughout CPS, Dr. Abeyta shared a Happy Hispanic Heritage Month message with our community this week.
Continuing to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month!
Students at the Mary C. Burke Complex continue to celebrate Hispanic heritage Month by wearing a t-shirt from a Latin American country!
Chelsea Public Schools Celebrates #CollegPrideDay!
Friday September 30th is #CollegePrideDay! The CPS community was invited to represent their colleges or career paths today. Faculty & Staff across the district wore their Alma Mater attire proudly! The goal for #College PrideDay is to promote higher education in diverse postsecondary pathways. The hope is to have students be curious and ask questions like “Why did you choose that college” or “Why did you become a teacher?” or “What major were you, do you use it now”
District Professional Development Day
Across the district educators and district staff participated in Professional Development by school and department. It was a day of learning and sharing for all educators.
Teacher Pathway Program
Dr. Jennings led the Teacher Pathway Program on "Equity & Belong"
School Counselors & School Social Teams PD
Our School Counselors and Social Workers have continued to work together this academic year, collaborating as building based teams and district-wide. Our goal is to "Bridge" the work that is being done for alignment, which will support student success.
Kelly School PD
On PD day, Kelly Spanish teachers learned some best practices for helping students transfer content they learned in one language to their other language of instruction — and to notice and make use of metalinguistic connections. Lots of higher order thinking happens when you learn in two languages!

Hispanic Heritage & Dot Day Challenge
Kelly School second graders in Mrs. Santos Vielmann, Ms. Donnelly and Mrs. Escobar's class continued sharing about themselves and celebrating their Hispanic Heritage while completing the Dot Day Challenge contest. We each made 3 dots. One represented our name, the second represented our strength/superpower, and the last dot we shared our stories. Once all were completed we made a collage of all our dots. Students were excited to share about where they come from and why their names and families are so important to them. Like Vashti, we made our mark to see where it took us! Special thank you to Ms. Vivian and Mr. Jose for helping us create this art project!
Students discover their Identity through their writing
Kelly 5th and 6th graders have been doing lots of writing about their identity and family heritage!
Open House at the Browne
The Browne Middle School had an amazing time at our Open House. Thanks to all our amazing teachers, student volunteer and staff for not only getting our families to join us but for also making them feel at home.
Penny Kittle visits the Browne
Browne fifth grade ELA students in Ms. Kittle’s class had a small visitor - Penny Kittle! Penny worked with students this week on reading and writing, bringing her expertise into the classroom! Students engaged with Ms. Kittle about their own writing, and also received feedback on the various texts each student was reading. Among many other things, Penny works beside teachers and leaders across the world to empower young readers and writers.

Students enjoyed exploring mixing different solutions and had fun watching the results!
Students in Ms. Crowley, Mr. Ault and Mr. Hogan’s science classes at CAMS interpreted triple beam balances by calculating the mass of an object.

What a Week at CVLA!
It’s been a busy and important week at CVLA. On Monday, the school hosted SuitUp a National non profit that pairs schools with executive coach volunteers from local businesses. Students then collaborate on teams to solve an issue facing corporations like Nike, PayPal and Google. Our company was Nike and student teams were charged as CEO’s for the day with designing innovative products. Our winning team designed sneakers that can be purchased with a subscription, so families never run out!
We thank our volunteers from Vertex and SuitUp for a day filled with learning and fun.
Meet up Learning Days at La Colaborativa and the Museum of Science.
Students and faculty/ staff met for the first time this school year for two full days of learning and fun. At La Colaborativa we spent the day addressing our school’s essential question ‘Who am I?’ Students engaged in team competitions, painting, cooking, yoga and problem solving. Friday, we went as a school to the Museum of Science. There we explored exhibits, enjoyed two Omni theater shows, ate lunch and created a group project from our day. Most importantly, during all activities, we got to know one another better, students met face to face with one another and their teachers/ CVLA staff members. It was a special week!
