Invent Learning Hub News - November

Stay informed during our amazing journey! Opening fall 2019

Mission: ILH uses personalized learning and design thinking experiences to grow collaborative, entrepreneurial problem-solvers who leave ILH with an individualized post-secondary success plan.

Important Updates

  • ILH is currently working with IPS to determine if they will enter into an innovation school partnership. If so, this would mean ILH would enter into contract with IPS for potential services and become a part of the IPS network of schools. This will not impact the ILH model or our commitment to serving the Southeast community through our unique model. This partnership would only open up opportunities for the school, but not change anything about our current model or plan.
  • The ILH facilities team has been hard at work searching for a home for the 2019-2020 school year. We are happy to report that we have a building of interest and several other buildings we have been considering as well. We hope to share more soon!
  • ILH Leader, Aleicha Ostler spent time with other Indianapolis School Leaders at the Relay Principal Fellowship convening. They learned more about teacher coaching and ensuring rigor is added to instruction.
  • Check out the information below about ILH family nights that will take place at the Twin Aire McDonalds!
  • ILH Leaders Aleicha Ostler and Gabriel Surface attended the Get on Board Event held at Newfields this month. Board Member, Tyler Ewigleben was also in attendance. They were able to network with several great community members and organization in Indianapolis.

ILH Plan Transportation Routes!

ILH recently met with Miller Transportation to set-up a bus route for the Southeast community! We are committed to serving our Twin Aire stakeholders and several satellite stops will be provided in the area. Our bus rout will cover the most Southern point of the IPS Southeast boundary all the way north of Washington Street. ILH is working to target areas where students are underserved. It is ILH's goal to communicate their building location very soon so that families can make the most informed decisions regarding school choice for the 2019-2020 school year.

ILH Leadership gets Involved in Beloved Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Sessions

The ILH staff has attended 2 sessions in a series of 5 with Beloved Community. Their approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion work aligns with our ILH model and mission. Through this work ILH is creating goals around equity work to ensure that our practices, policies, and professional development support DEI. We are establishing an equity plan and setting goals through this work. One of our major focus areas will center around aligning the staff diversity to our student body. We will also be establishing goals and strategy around providing PD and coaching to teachers to ensure that they are aware of their space within DEI and are intentionally setting personal goals to grow personally. This will also eventually translate into work with parents and students as well.

ILH Founder Visits DC Schools

Recently all Mind Trust fellows took their last cohort trip to Washington DC. The focus of the trip was on parent engagement and community involvement. They were able to visit local schools doing great engagement work and also meet with local agencies such as Kindred and Pave. CEO, Aleicha Ostler felt the trip broadened her ideas around community work. It also helped her think of parent involvement through various areas such as advocacy and parent organizing within cities. There was also a lot of rich learning around the idea of reason behind providing family engagement activities and working to build parent voice to determine how parent engagement looks. The next step for ILH leadership after this meeting will be to build out a parent involvement framework for the school and consider what staff roles will include an emphasis on growing parent and community engagement work.
