Cedar Grove Friday Flash
November 19, 2021
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
Parent/Teacher conferences will take place on November 22 and 23. These conferences are a great opportunity to strengthen the home/school partnership through two-way communication about academic progress and work habits as well as personal and social growth. However, time for conferences is limited, and we encourage parents to review our conference tips to maximize this opportunity to work together for the benefit of our children. If you have not yet scheduled a conference, please work with your child's teacher to schedule it.
We are so sorry to share that we did not receive our food delivery yesterday, and as a result, we are experiencing a food shortage and will not be able to send home suppers next Monday and Tuesday. We apologize if this causes any hardship for any of our families.
Mr. Oedemann, our SGA sponsor, would like to share the following SGA news: The SGA will be collecting new, unwrapped toys to support the Marine's Toys for Tots program. We will be collecting toys from Monday, November 22nd through Friday, December 10th. There will be a box in the front lobby for the toys. Thank you for helping us bring joy to America's less fortunate children.
We wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving and hope you enjoy time with family and/or friends. Due to the short week next week, the next Friday Flash will be sent to families on December 3rd.
Mr. Derby and Mrs. German

Please read this important note from our counselor, Mrs. Spoales:
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Montgomery County Public Schools is taking an active role in the prevention of child abuse and neglect through early prevention and intervention education.
During the months of November and December, I will be presenting lessons on the topic of child abuse and neglect. The lessons are known as Personal Body Safety Lessons and their purpose is to help students to:
- Develop knowledge, decision making skills, and behaviors which promote safe living in the home, school, and community;
- Learn skills for self-protection and identifying child abuse and neglect;
- Learn skills for asking for help for self and others and practice reporting to a trusted adult; and
- Engage in positive and appropriate interactions with peers and adults.
If you have any questions or concerns about the topics that will be covered, please contact me at 240-740-6190 or Erin_M_Spoales@mcpsmd.org.
Celebrating Our Voices of Hope
Please see a wonderful opportunity below that was just published in the MCPS Bulletin:

Celebrating Our Voices of Hope will be a virtual event from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1. The event is hosted by the Hispanic Alliance for Education (HAE), the League of Educators for Asian American Progress (LEAAP) and the Montgomery County Alliance of Black School Educators (MCABSE). Students can earn 10 SSL hours for completing the process. Start the application process.
