Learning Models Weekly Schedules
If you have not already done so, please complete . . . .
PARENT ASSURANCES
- IMPORTANT!!! Once you acknowledge the three assurances, you will no longer need to have your student complete (and parents sign) a DAILY learning activity log when we enter hybrid learning mode.
- If you DON'T complete this in Skyward, you will be required to complete and submit a learning log every day in order for the student to get credit from the state for attending school. The learning log consists of documenting what was learned each class period. Both the parent and the student will have to sign this log each day.
- If you have not already done so, please complete the parent assurances form in Skyward as soon as possible.
You need to log on to Family Access in Skyward to complete the form.
If you are having trouble completing this, or have any questions regarding this form, please contact us at 913-993-1000.

Does your child need busing?
With the Hybrid model staring Oct. 26th, please make sure you have bussing set up if you need bussing.
We highly recommend you checking with the bus company to ensure that you are enrolled for bussing if your child needs bus transportation.
Bus Transportation
In an effort to transport students in the safest way possible, the following are measures that will be followed for transportation of students by bus and passenger vehicles in the Shawnee Mission School District.
Enrollment
New this year, ALL families who want their child(ren) to receive bus service must enroll via DS Bus Lines. This includes those that qualify for free busing by residing over the state designated 2.5 miles from school.
- For those who qualify for free busing (residing over 2.5 miles from school). Click here to enroll: Shawnee Mission Bus Registration .
- For those enrolling in Parent Pay Busing (where routes are offered): Click here to enroll:
https://dsbuslinessm.revtrak.net/-school-bus-parent-pay#/list
Families who qualify for free/reduced lunches may contact DS Bus Lines to arrange enrollment. Bus fees will be prorated for the days that district is in remote attendance per JCDHE gating criteria. Additional information may be found on the SMSD transportation webpage or by contacting DS Bus Lines (913.384.1190). https://www.smsd.org/families/transportation
Student Bus Information
For those students enrolled for the bus via DS Bus Lines, student bus numbers and pick up/drop off addresses and scheduled times are available to families in Skyward Family Access 2 days prior to the start of the hybrid schedule. Please login to your Family Access account and select the Busing tab for information. If you do not have bus information for your child in Skyward, you may not have completed enrollment for transportation and should contact DS Bus Lines (913.384.1190).
Required Masks
Masks will be required of all bus riders for the entire time they are on the bus. Failure to wear a mask may result in loss of privileges to ride the bus for a period of time up to the remainder of the semester. Masks will be available on each bus should a student forget or lose their mask in the transition to and from school. State guidance permits bus drivers to remove their mask for safety reasons while operating the bus. Drivers will wear a mask while students are entering and exiting the bus.
For additional bus information, click HERE.
BELL SCHEDULES!!
All families who selected Option 2 Remote Learning only will continue learning as they have been in the remote setting. The daily schedule and learning model will not change for our Option 2 Remote learners through this transition. The Bell Schedule will remain the same as it is now for our Option 2 Remote learners.
Due to transitioning to hybrid, all families who selected Option 1 In-Person Learning will attend school in person for 2 days each week beginning Monday, October 26. Those students in the hybrid model will follow a little different bell schedule due to the need for building time into the schedule for lunches for the students in the building.

Happy October Trailridge Friends & Families –
Yes, some of this is repeat information, but it is pertinent information that bears repeating:
- Great news!!! The Johnson County Board of County Commissioners has awarded CARES Act funds to provide subsidies for school-age programs. These funds will allow us to provide Out of School Time (OST) services at discounted rates to families. WHO QUALIFIES FOR FUNDS? Funds will be available to ALL families!!
HOW TO APPLY
Families can apply today and get funding through December 30, 2020, or until funding is depleted. Here is the link to the child care subsidy application: https://www.jcprd.com/FormCenter/Childrens-Services-10/COVID19-School-Age-Remote-Learning-Child-329 If you have any questions, please contact our Registration office at 913-831-3359 or email Registration@jocogov.org This is great news! This includes the remote learning hubs as well as schools.
- Mark your calendars for October 29, 2020 5:30pm – 7:30pm. I’ve also attached Johnson County Mental Health’s October Parent Support Group. It is all about the special education process with an emphasis on IEP’s and parental rights and safeguards. It is open to all of Johnson County residents, not just clients of JCMHC. If any parents or teachers who might be interested, feel free to pass this along! The sign up information is in the flyer, and it’s free!

From Our Food Service
Food Service welcomes every student to enjoy FREE & SAFE school meals.
FREE meals are offered to all SMSD students regardless if they are learning remote, hybrid, or in person. This includes breakfast and lunch meals. Meals are funded entirely by USDA as part of their Summer Meals Program extension. These free meals will continue through the end of the 2020-21 school year. We encourage families to continue to apply for free and reduced meals. Qualifying may allow for other support through the district.
Students will receive their in-person meals at no cost during the days they are in school. Any extra ala carte purchases the students make will require money to be on their food service account.
Remote meals pick up are on Fridays from 6:30-7:45 a.m. These new pick up times are effective on Friday, Oct. 23, 2020. This time change is necessary in order to keep the students safe as we transition to in-person students on Fridays. We apologize if this is inconvenient and realize this isn’t ideal for some families. We remain committed to serving all students.
Meals are prepared with the utmost of care to ensure each child's safety. The Food Service department and employees take food safety and the health of all students and staff seriously.
We continue to follow all health department food and COVID-19 guidelines including:
- All employees wear masks
- Gloves are worn and changed frequently
- Proper handwashing followed
- Acrylic shields are used to ensure social distancing for the cashier and in food preparation areas
- High touch areas are disinfected regularly
- All side dishes are individually packaged
- Entrees are served to students upon request
- Disposable compostable trays, individually wrapped silverware and individual condiments are utilized
- Cashiers utilize software to charge elementary students and secondary students will use ID cards with scanners instead of pin pads
Please contact the Food Service office with questions at (913)993-9710 or foodservices@smsd.org.
The school breakfast & lunch menus, remote meal information and other nutrition information are available on the district’s website at https://www.smsd.org/about/departments/food-service.
STILL APPLY FOR FREE/REDUCED MEALS . . .
We encourage families to continue to apply for free and reduced meals in the event the funding is no longer available by clicking here. Qualifying may allow for other support through the district so it is important to continue to apply for free and reduced meals.
