Safety (and staying healthy)
Let's talk safety right quick. Not the headline dominating "school safety" of school intruders or some other similar horrible act. Rather the mundane and boring, but no less important, personal health and safety of you the school district employee.
Typically we don't think of school as a dangerous industry, and it usually isn't. Nowhere near the industry leading 110.9 deaths per 100,000 workers for the logging industry! There, now that I have your attention...
How can you maintain your personal safety? Mostly it is thinking before you act and using some good old common sense. While we have a good number of maintenance, custodial and transportation employees that have to be extra cautious due to the nature of their work and the tools involved, for most of the rest of us the most dangerous thing we do is pick up something too heavy, walk down stairs or a ramp, or (and I hope this is not you), stand on a desk or chair to reach something up high (full disclosure - seven stitches in my ankle a few years ago when the desk I was standing on to paint tipped over).
Please stay healthy so we can have you in front of kids doing what you do best. Think about the heft of an object before you pick it up (and proper form when lifting), put your phone away and pay attention to walking down stairs (and look for wet floors or spots that may cause slippage), and find a ladder or step stool when trying to access something too high to reach.
