We Are Hawks!
11/17/22
Irons Family,
I am very thankful to serve as principal of Irons Junior High. Thank you for trusting my staff and myself with your child every day. I hope everyone gets to spend time with those you care most about and that you enjoy your time with friends and family.
Giving Thanks:
As we finish this week before Thanksgiving, we would like to thank you for your support this school year! If you would like to send a thank you note to your student's teachers, the easiest way to do this is by creating a Teacher Achieving Excellence or T.A.E. submission. You can do this by going to Parent Access Center, clicking on "Communication," and then "Teacher/Staff Excellence." You then can select the teacher or staff member's name. The message that you send will go directly to the staff member.
Deliveries to Campus:
For the safety of our students, Irons Junior High will not allow food or other items to be delivered to students at the school. We cannot accept food delivery from companies such as Uber Eats, Grubhub, Doordash, etc. Students can charge lunch to their school cafeteria account if they forget their lunch at home. If a parent needs to drop an item off to their student, they may leave the item in the front office with a note.
Instruction Begins at 8:50 AM:
Please remember that instruction begins at 8:50 AM. I know that traffic can be heavy on 45 and 242, so please help your child by leaving a few minutes earlier to plan for the increase in traffic. Your child needs to arrive on campus in plenty of time to get some breakfast, walk to their class, talk to their teacher, and then prepare to start a day of learning.
Students must be in their class prepared for instruction when the bell rings at 8:50 AM.
Blankets:
As the weather turns cooler, this is a reminder that students can not wear blankets in the building. Any blankets brought to school should be placed in backpacks. If we have students that do not have coats or jackets, they may utilize the Communities in Schools programs on campus to help supply students with clothing needs.
Yearbook:
The Irons Award Winning Yearbook is on sale now only for 55 Dollars!! Beat the next price increase!
After School Pick up:
All students should be picked up from Irons by 5:00 unless they attend an approved after-school activity. We do not have supervision for students after this time. Thank you for looking out for your child's safety.
Student Attendance Matters:
Average daily attendance affects our funding, our campus rating, and mostly your student's academic progress. Our goal is 97%, and our current campus average attendance is 94.9%. Please encourage and ensure your student attends school daily.
Spinal Screening:
State law requires that schools must screen students for abnormal spinal curvature in accordance with the following guidance:
- Girls will be screened two times, once at the age of 10 and again at the age of 12 or fall semester of grade 7.
- Boys will be screened once at age 13 or 14 or in the fall semester of grade 8.
- Our school will conduct spinal screenings for girls on Dec. 7, 2022
- Our school will conduct spinal screenings for boys on Dec. 8, 2022
You can find more information about the screenings below.
Bell Schedule Change:
To improve student comfort, safety, and the learning environment, we have decided to change our bell schedule for the second semester. This change will create two transition periods allowing students to transition from class to class with only 7th or 8th-grade students. We hope this change will improve the daily educational experience of our students.
