Principal's Message
Pirate parents,
We are a little more than halfway through our Summer Vacation. I have been busy this summer working with the principals of the other Junior High buildings, along with our District office, to establish plans for the 2020-2021 school year. With the uncertainty of where we will be a month from now, we have a couple of options that we are planning. More information on this will be released from the district regarding possible returns to in-person instruction, remote learning, and any other plans to support our students and families at Plank and across the district.
In the meantime, if you haven't registered your child for school, and they are a Plank student, please follow this link to register them for the 2020-2021 school year!

Though there is not much I can share with any of our families at this time, I want you to know that I am thinking about you, and that I have spoken with several of my teachers this summer about how much we miss seeing kids. Our sentiments from earlier in April when we released our "We Miss You" video very much remain. We miss our Pirates! So much of our profession and the work that we do is centered around relationships and connections.
If you have specific needs for your family, or you have questions, there is a link to a form survey that you can complete to share with me further down in the newsletter. We want to keep open lines of communication with our families so that we can continue to provide support and answer questions. I know they are out there!
I also want to welcome all of our new families to Plank. We shared out our 6th grade step up website through our counselors. Follow this link to our Counselor's webpage, which has a wealth of information and our presentation for incoming Pirates. Our purpose is to get our incoming Pirates excited for the transition into Plank, as well as have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with some of the faces and voices that they will see when they arrive in the Fall. There is also Plank spiritwear information below that will help to get new families involved and in the Pirate Spirit! We can't wait to see our students again!
The staff at Plank Junior High is committed to serving the students and parents of the surrounding community. We want to provide multiple opportunities for students to showcase their talents, and grow as young adults through academics and social emotional learning. Our focus is to prepare our students to be ready for college and future careers. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me and we can work together to find solutions. I can be reached at 630-551-9400 and thaymond@sd308.org. We look forward to collaborating with you and your student throughout the year.
Always in partnership,
Tyler Haymond
