Prestwick LEarns: Exploration of Math Tools
This week Mrs. Jones', 4th grade Math teacher, put this nicely into action during her geometry units. The students have learned about right, obtuse and acute angles and were prepared to begin learning how to use a protractor. Mrs. Jones had students work in pairs to explore by describing what they notice and formulating wonders about what the tool was for as well as how to use it. Students noticed it could be used for tracing, that two make protractors make a circle and that it had numbers both on the straight edge and the rounded part. Students wondered what it was used for.
Students proceeded to investigate the proper way to use a protractor and were just buzzing with excitement. One student stated "This is mind blowing!" They wrapped up by using their protractor to predict and measure angles for practice. Finally they each worked in pairs and wrote a script for a flipgrid video explaining what they learned about protractors.
We hope to promote the chance to explore, notice and wonder about things we will learn about so that the learning we will do is rich and memorable! We are so excited to continue our journey to become a Nationally Certified STEM Campus in 2020 via National Institute for STEM Education. #STEMeducation

Staff Spotlight
This week’s spotlight is on two amazing PSA members that are making a positive impact during students lunches, Mr. Diaz and Mrs. Craig. As monitors during lunch time, they get to interact with our students on a daily basis to help them have a positive experience. We hope you enjoy learning a little bit about Mr. Diaz and Mrs. Craig.
Mr. Everett Diaz is originally from the Lubbock area, but has lived in the Dallas area for the past 20 years. Mr. Diaz has his own Real Estate business and lawn service. He loves staying busy and spending time with his family. He felt a calling to be a part of the school system. Three of his six children attend PSA and his wife is a teacher here so PSA felt like good fit.
Mr. Diaz loves serving in the community and helping others. He is honored to be a part of the Prestwick family. He hopes to make a positive impact while monitoring the PSA cafe.”I believe that children are the future of our nation and I believe any positive interactions I can add to their day to day lives makes a difference.”
My name is Tiffiney Craig, and I am proud to be serving the staff and students at Prestwick! I grew up in Central Oklahoma, and after graduating from the University of Central Oklahoma with a BBA in Finance, I moved to the fast-growing city of Las Vegas, Nevada. There I met and married my husband of 17 years, Tony, and we had 2 sweet boys, Evan and Eli. Las Vegas was a fun place to live, but far away from family. In 2013 we were blessed with an opportunity to move to Texas and be much closer to our loved ones, and are happy to be in such a family-friendly area with excellent educational opportunities for our kids. I love taking road trips with my family, visiting my parents in Oklahoma, and introducing my boys to new experiences such as snow tubing and archery. My favorite place to be is on the sidelines of the soccer field watching Evan & Eli play on the same team and my husband coaching them!
We NEED You to share your passion for your career with our students!!

Dual Language Parent Meetings
We're trying to expand our reach and we think you can help by word-of-mouth. You may have a neighbor or friend who has an incoming Little Elm ISD kindergartner. We want them to know about our upcoming Dual Language parent meetings.
Dual Language is a Spanish and English two-way bilingual program that begins in kindergarten. Interested parents who have incoming kindergartners for the 2020-2021 school year should plan to attend one of two parent meetings: the first meeting is Wednesday, February 26, at Brent Elementary at 6:30 p.m.
The second meeting is Wednesday, March 25 at Oak Point Elementary at 6:30 pm! For more information about the District's Dual Language Program, visit our website at www.littleelmisd.net/duallanguage
