Principal's Message

TJ Community:

I cannot believe it's already February! We spent some extra time these past few weeks going over all of our expectations for students in order to make our school as safe and orderly as possible. I know as an educator, when students know what is expected of them, and they can count on their school environment to be consistent, they are able to learn at the most optimal level. I'm so proud of everyone's efforts.

As you recently read, we are also changing our communication procedures when we learn of an identified positive COVID case in the school. As a reminder, information about these changes can be found here.

If you have any questions, about the start of 2022 or any other questions about TJ do not hesitate to call the school. 847.963.5400.

Registration for the 2022-2-23 School Year

Parents: Online Registration is open for all families (new and existing). You can click on the Online Registration link which will take to the page so you register your child(ren) for the 2022-2023 school year.

To help us with planning for next year, it's very important that we know who our new families are as early as possible. If you know of any NEW families that live in your neighborhood, please feel free to share this information with them.

If anyone needs help, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

TJ Students LOVE Coming to TJ Everyday! Whether it is.....

5Essentials Survey

TJ Parents:

Each year the State has schools (parents, staff and students in 4th through 8th grade) take the 5Essentials Survey.

The survey provides us with valuable information we can use for our future planning. We only get the results of the survey if we get 20% or more of our parents to take the survey.

If you have not done so already, please consider taking this survey.

Although it will ask for your email, we will not receive any personal information from the parent responses.

5th grade Students and Families Make a Difference

Mrs. Kennedy and Mrs. Kovathana and many of the 5th grade students and their families all pitched in and volunteered at Feed My Starving Children in January. Not only did they box up food (over 70 boxes) to help children around the world, they also raised money as well. They ended up donating over $1800 to this organization. Thank you to the teachers and the TJ Community for once again, stepping up and helping out others in need.

TJ Valentine's Day Classroom Parties

We are excited to bring back our Valentine's Day classroom parties this year. At TJ, we will have the parties on Friday, February 11th. A few general reminders: There will be NO FOOD at any of the classroom parties. If your child wants to give Valentine's Day cards or small gifts to their classmates, we ask that they bring enough to give every student in the classroom.

We are looking forward to a fun Friday afternoon.

The Center for Literacy at National Louis University is offering a Summer Reading Program to help students who are experiencing reading and/or writing difficulties.

  • Tutors are licensed teachers who are earning their graduate degree as a Reading Specialist.

  • Students receive one-to-one tutoring in reading and writing one hour per day, four mornings per week, for five weeks.

  • The program will run from June 27-July 28, and daily attendance (virtual or in person) is mandatory.

  • Services will be available in English and Spanish.

  • D15 students can register for a discounted rate of $100!

    • The Multilingual Department will cover this cost with grant funding for any EL student. Parents can fill out the application online (link in the flyer) and do not need to pay anything. Our Department will collaborate with NLU to provide payment on behalf of our EL families.

    • General education students experiencing reading/writing difficulties can also sign up for the discounted rate. Parents can sign up directly with NLU using the link on the attached flyers.
