We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break.

A big thank you to our PTA and parents who sent our staff off with delicious pies! Oh my! How much our staff appreciated your kindness. Everything you do for us stays with us each and every single day. You lift us up and our students. You bring us JOY!

Our PTA also provided us the opportunity to have our first VIRTUAL assembly of the year with the Dallas Mavericks, Mavs Man and Champ on Wednesday! The children enjoyed the assembly via Big Screens in their classrooms! So engaging and enjoyable!

We were also excited that our Dallas Mavs took the opportunity to recognize one more time our 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year Laurel Hagen.

Wednesday was an amazing afternoon.

We START learning at 7:40

What does 'Arrive in Time' actually mean?

It means our children arrive to school in time to be in the chairs, unpacked and ready for a great day of learning when the bell rings at 7:40.

If your child arrives on campus at 7:40 they will start their day behind.

We know arriving for work with a few minutes to spare makes all the difference in how our day begins.

With 60% of our students attending school Face to Face we are fortunate that getting to school and through our carpool line has never been easier!

However, we have several students arriving late. We need your help.

In the state of Texas tardies are considered a partial unexcused absence.

Often times students are late within 5-10 minutes of the start time.

Please remember that we begin instruction/learning at 7:40. We encourage you drop off your child or if your child is a walker that they leave home in time to arrive no later than 7:30.

Your child needs time to unpack their belongings and get ready for the morning. Walking in after 7:40 can be awkward for our children as they hurry to catch up. Not the ideal way to start their morning.

Thank you for setting your alarm clock a little earlier in order for your child to arrive to school no later than 7:30 . This allows them the time they need to be ready and at their best when the instruction begins at 7:40 a.m.

With colder weather we encourage students to have their jackets, hats, gloves, masks and backpacks at the door ready to go each morning. This often times helps avoid leaving home late in search of a missing glove.

And if you are running a little behind keep in mind the school opens at 7:00 a.m. and we have free breakfast served until 7:25 in the cafeteria with social distancing in place for our children.

The Gift of Emotional Wellness, can be the most needed by a child and yet never requested. Emotional wellness is a gift that lasts a lifetime.


In order to help keep our Mathews students and staff healthy, please complete the Student Reporting Form in the following situations:

· Your child or a household member is awaiting a Covid-19 test result

· Your child has been identified as a close contact to an individual with Covid-19

· Your child has symptoms that could be Covid-19*

· Your child has tested positive for Covid-19

*Symptoms include: fever or chills, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea OR at least one of the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing

This form should be used to report when a student has been diagnosed with COVID-19, is having symptoms that may be COVID-19, or if they have been identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Once the report is received, your school nurse will contact you with additional information.

School to Home Learners:

Curbside Meal Bundles for PISD School@Home Students

Weekly meal bundles will be provided on Tuesdays from 9:30am to 10:30am and 4:45pm to 6:00pm at Clark HS, Shepton HS, and Williams HS, McMillen HS and Vines HS.

Meal bundles will consist of five breakfasts and five lunches.

*Anyone picking up meals for students, without the student present, must bring appropriate documentation in the form of a school issued ID, report card, parent portal attendance summary form, or birth certificate.

Federal Meal Program


At this time all students receive free breakfast and lunch. This should continue until the end of December unless funds are exhausted before that time. Students who had previously qualified for Free/Reduced meals during the 2019-20 school year are no longer eligible unless you submit a new application. You will find the application below with our breakfast and lunch menus. We encourage you to submit a new application to continue services.
