Harnett was founded in 1855. It is named for Cornelius Harnett, an American Revolutionary war soldier who was also a delegate to the Continental Congress. Its neighboring counties are Wake, Johnston, Sampson, Cumberland, Moore, Lee, and Chatham. It is located in the Piedmont region of NC.
Harnett is governed by a Board of Commissioners that consists of five members. The county manager is Joseph Jefferies.
Harnett has many attractions, including Aversboro Battlefield and Museum, Cape Fear River Adventures, and Anderson Creek Golf Club.
Visit Lillington, the beautiful seat of Harnett's government. Named after Revolutionary War officer John Alexander Lillington, the city offers a variety of experiences including several historic sites. Lillington is run by town manager William Summers, mayor Glenn McFadden, and five council members. Nearby Cambell University offers quality education, and Cape Fear River is a beautiful tourist attraction. We hope to see you soon!
