number sense at home
Lauren Walton, Mathematics Coach
First and foremost, Mrs. Berkman and I would like to thank all of the families that joined us for our Passport to Learning Community night here at Dunning last Thursday evening. And an extra thank you to all of you that made contributions towards dinner and dessert. It was such a fun evening!
Remember, number sense is the ability to work flexibly and efficiently with numbers. You can help your children build their number sense by playing simple games with no materials necessary! Last week’s game was What’s the Question? This week’s Number Sense at Home game is called Who Am I?
Who Am I?: To play this simple game ask your child a question like: I am an even number greater than ten but less than twenty. The sum of my digits is nine. Who am I?
Not only does this promote puzzling and flexible thinking with numbers, but it’s a great way to reinforce math vocabulary.
Try it out and let us know how it goes at lwalton33@framingham.k12.ma.us ! We’d love to hear how you’re practicing Number Sense at home.
There is no cost for this event, but it is NOT a drop off event. You must attend with your child.

CARE & SHARE
The Jane Shapiro Care and Share began in 1995 as a Dunning School community service project. Each month a specific food item is collected at the school to help keep A Place to Turn's shelves stocked. What a great sharing and learning project! Donations are gathered up by the students and then with help from staff, they are delivered to A Place to Turn. Learn more about A Place to Turn here.
Thank you for your contributions to A Place to Turn during the year. Our monthly food collection makes a huge difference in our community, while teaching our students the importance of giving.
