Cougar Courier

Greetings from Dr. Garcia!

February 1, 2020

Despite the warm weather forecast for the weekend, February is here! Our attribute for this month is inquirer. We want to encourage our scholars to wonder and ask questions about the world around them. Black History Month begins today which lends itself to some great opportunities for teachers and scholars to explore inquiry. We hope you will join us in encouraging scholars to ask "why".

We had a busy week at CIA. On Monday, we recognized Mr. William Jones and Mr. Warren Bynum for the SBCSC #TeamSouthBend Awards. We are truly thankful for the work these two gentlemen do on a daily basis!

Our girl's basketball team had their first game of the season and our varsity squad lost a heartbreaker to Jefferson in overtime. We are proud of our Lady Cougars and know that they will bounce back in this week's game against Dickinson.

We celebrated the 100th day of school on Wednesday, and our scholars celebrated all that they have learned! We are certainly 100 days smarter and so proud of everything our scholars have accomplished.

On Tuesday, we had our first informational parent meeting about the French Immersion Dual Language Program coming this fall. We will have another meeting on February 20th at 5:30 pm. We are excited about the opportunity to provide this unique educational experience at CIA.

As we look ahead at the week, we hope you will stop by Chipotle at Eddy Street Commons on Wednesday, February 5th. The give back night is from 5:00-9:00 pm and you must show the flyer.

Our girl's basketball team has a home game on Thursday, February 6th at 5:30 pm and our wrestling team kicks off its season on Wednesday at Jackson. The meet begins at 5:30 pm.

Reminders

Scholars in grades 6-8 should charge their Chromebook nightly. We do not sell chargers, and if a scholar loses the charger, s/he must purchase a new one.

Scholars should not have their phones out during instruction and cell phones should be secured in their lockers. The expectation for communicating with your scholars is to call the office.

While technology is an important piece of living and working in the 21st Century, it is important to know how teens are impacted by technology. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, and I will see our scholars on Monday!

Blessings,

Dr. Garcia
