The Six Gazette

August Edition

\0/ Welcome to the Six \0/

Hello 6th grade families! We are so excited that your child has joined the Neal Family this year. We know that school looks and feel very different than previous years, but we are excited about getting to know your child and making this 6th grade year one to remember. We have dubbed our grade level as "theSix", and we are proud to inform you that: #theSixisLIT.

Here in theSix, we will be sharing information and updating families using our virtual newsletter tool, Smore! This will allow us to communicate grade level updates, team updates, share pictures, and keep you informed of upcoming events and other important information.

In Case You Missed It

  • Students participated in a BOY (beginning of year) assessment to help serve as a measuring stick for where our students are currently academically. This well help teachers with lesson planning, identifying what gaps might be present as a result of school closing prematurely last school year, and meeting the individual needs of our students.

  • A virtual grade level meeting for theSix was held to review Rising Eagle Expectations for Virtual learning. We encourage you to review this information with your child.

  • All Spanish speaking students of theSix were provided a unique opportunity where they received a technology tutorial that was 100% in Spanish!

Habit Highlight

Each month we will look to highlight one habit (character trait). As a team, teachers will select one student that they feel demonstrated that habit throughout the month. The student will be recognized and highlighted in the newsletter. The habit that we will highlight for the month of September is RESPECT: (treating others the way you want to be treated. Being considerate and honoring the feelings, opinions, and property of others).

Spotlight on Students

Each month, we will also look to place a spotlight on one (additional) student from each team.

Team Challenges

In an effort to build camaraderie within each team, we will be designing Team Challenges for students to participate in friendly competitions in an effort to win a wide variety of incentives and rewards. Stay tuned for upcoming information about our team model and our first challenge.

Meet the Teacher Night

Please be on the lookout for more information regarding Meet the Teacher Night to be held on Thursday, September 10th.

Big picture

Avengers Team Updates

You may have noticed changes to your child's schedule. Please visit PowerSchool to receive the most up to date schedule information for your child. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. McDonald (ESL teacher for theSix).

Explorers Team Updates

The Explorers team is off to a great start to the school year, and look forward to sharing cool information that they have been doing on their team.

Trailblazers Team Updates

We are pleased to announce that we have found a highly qualified math teacher who has been recommended for hire. Ms. Click will be joining our Neal family, and the Trailblazers team. We are hopeful that she will be able to join us full-time by mid-September, ready to engage with students. Beginning Monday, August 31st, all Trailblazers will return to their regular schedule (as listed in PowerSchool), and will attend math class with Mr. Leathers during their assigned time. Mr. Leathers has experience working with our Neal students in Math and ELA, and will serve as an instructional facilitator while Ms. Click transitions to Neal. Mr. Leathers will be joined throughout this week by Ms. MacNeil, our current 6th grade instructional coach (and former math teacher). We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
