What a GREAT WEEK!
Dear Atholton Families,
Homecoming week began with a summer theme and beach chair in the front lobby -- courtesy of the senior class! Each class did an outstanding job of decorating their respective hallways. You can find pictures of the week at the bottom of our school webpage. The week ended with a new tradition of holding our pep rally in the gym. While this may seem like the norm for many parents, Atholton has held its pep rally in the football stadium for several years. The atmosphere in the gym was immeasurable! Each class held a section in the gym in their class color. The activities were fun, ranging from Human Hungry Hungry Hippos to the traditional Tug of War (won by the seniors!). Saturday brought a nearly full house for the Homecoming Breakfast and many community members out to see the parade on Freetown Road. The Powerpuff game was exciting and although we lost the football game, our team fought hard. We were treated to an awesome half-time performance by the Marching Band. Lastly, it was so nice to see students in their formal wear for the Homecoming Dance. Students enjoyed dancing the night away and spending time with friends.
This past week is a reminder of why I love my job. The school spirit, the camaraderie, and the relationship building between students, staff, and the community make the long hours of the week seem insignificant. As I spoke with several parents this past weekend, many mentioned how their high schools had pep rallies EVERY WEEK. Imagine that -- a homecoming atmosphere every week!
I would like to take an opportunity to thank the scores of parent and teacher volunteers who helped to make our Homecoming a huge success. We would not have been able to do this without you. Thank you so much for the time and effort each of you put in to make this year's festivities special for our students.
Finally, you may have heard that Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Martirano, stopped by Atholton on Friday. Four student ambassadors, Drew Kassman, Kamau Richardson, Jessica Wang, and Jessica Zinderman, provided Dr. Martirano a tour of our school, as well as, visits to several classrooms. Dr. Martirano was very pleased with his visit to Atholton and looks forward to returning.
Wishing everyone a fantastic week!
Warmly,
Robert A. Motley
Principal
