Kuna families,
Welcome to the start of the new school year!
I plan to provide you with an update each week.
Along with news, my updates include ways you can get involved or provide feedback.
Earlier today, I hit my goal to visit visit every classroom during the first two days of school.
Not that long ago, I could accomplish this in a day!
Our community is growing and it's impacting our students and you.
We appreciate your patience with bus routes, meals, technology as we adjust to new students and these new systems.
π Tracking enrollment & class sizes
The first days of school, enrollment estimates turn into real students. We welcome newcomers and returning students --- and we discover what families moved from the district and won't be returning. We closely review numbers to determine how to best meet our goals for class size (see below) and serve our students.
State funding does not pay for all the teachers we need. We are grateful for past support of our Levy for Learning. This is a voter approved property tax that must be renewed every two years.
π±οΈ Help us plan for new schools
We know growth will mean new schools and improvements at our existing schools to serve more students. A committee is updating our 10-year plan and needs your help to finish.
They have a survey seeking your feedback on all our schools and have an opportunity for you to sign up for a face-to-face meeting on Sept. 8.
β‘οΈ Take the survey.
π¨In an emergency, how can we reach your family?
We've asked all families to log into PowerSchool and complete the Back to School Update. An essential piece of that is making sure the contacts for parents/guardians and emergency contacts are correct.
Only one parent or guardian needs to complete this for the family. Here's the link with information: https://www.kunaschools.org/powerschoolresources. This is best completed on a device like a laptop or desktop computer. It cannot be done from the PowerSchool mobile phone app. More on this below.
π PSST: There's a Kuna School District app! It's NOT PowerSchool
However, next month, we're rolling out the new Kuna School District mobile app. The app will provide parents/guardians a one-stop place for attendance and grades, school messages, notifications, calendars, social media and more! The app can be customized based on your interests and school associations. The app also allows our community members to keep up on news from our schools.
We appreciate your patience. If you would like to be a "beta tester" of the app, please email us at ksdcommunications@kunaschools.org
π Get involved - Join an advisory council
We value parent involvement in our schools and in decisions that impact their families. Each of our schools has a Parent Advisory Committee. These committees are different than a PTA or booster group. Members meet directly with school leaders to discuss concerns and plan for improvement.
At the district level, I rely on a Superintendent's Advisory Council made of parents, community members, and students. Our council has been amazing and thanks to them we've tackled some important concerns and developed helpful solutions.
If your interested, please send me an email.
