Principal's Memo
As a school community we feel Rockville High School is off to a strong start to the new school year! Students are working hard and engaged in their academics. We have over 200 fall student athletes and numerous clubs that students can now join.
Our first Parent Advisory and Parent Coffee & Conversation events of the year were held the week of September 9th. A special thank you to everyone who stopped by. We appreciate your thoughts, feedback and support. Our next PAC meeting is October 16th at 6:00 pm in the library. We hope families can join us again next month!
Open House is Monday, October 7 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. This is a great opportunity for families to meet classroom teachers and support staff as well as get an overview of all Rockville High School has to offer our students.
Anyone looking for Friday evening plans please join us at RHS’s home opener for our football game at 6:30.

Health & Physical Education - September 2019
Our PE classes are taking advantage of this beautiful fall weather! All our classes have been going outside to work on their cardio by running the track. Activities vary by class. Life Sports students have been playing tennis and various recreational games while Team Sports students are playing Ultimate Frisbee and Speedball. Fit for Life students have been doing H.I.I.T. and circuit workouts on the track and Weight Training students have been learning about the equipment and have just started their individual workouts.
Health & Wellness 1 students are starting off the year learning about the Health Triangle. Students are learning about self-esteem, decision making, and goal setting and how important it is to balance their social, mental and physical health in order to live a healthy and balanced life. One project they will soon be working on is their own personal Vision Board. This is a fun project where students create a “board” (either electronically or using a poster) which includes images, pictures, words, and affirmations of their dreams, goals, and things that make them happy. Students often ask, Why a Vision Board? And here’s what we tell them . . .
It provides clarity – it makes you think about what you really want
It’s a visual reminder of your goals and dreams
It get you fired up emotionally – you get excited and motivated about what “could” be while you imagine what something could feel like
It helps you focus and gets your energies focused on the path toward fulfilling your dreams!
It’s FUN!!!
Health & Wellness 2 classes are starting off the year learning about nutrition. Students are learning about the nutrients and the role nutrition plays in their health. One project they will soon be working on is a Healthy Diet project. Students will research and illustrate the components of a healthy diet, why it’s important, and consequences of not eating a healthy diet. They will also synthesize how eating a healthy diet will affect their ability to live a healthy and balanced life using examples from their own “bucket list.”
Tennis anyone? Life Sports students are getting ready for next year’s U.S. Open!
What a beautiful morning for a jog! Students start their day with a few laps around the track to get their blood flowing and their hearts strong!

Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)
Athletic Director, Jeff Farrell and Student Activities Advisor, Paul Courtois joined us to discuss student involvement and provided an overview of the sports, clubs, and various activities which are available for our students.
Our Parent Advisory meetings are held monthly and give parents the opportunity to meet with administration to discuss and share topics. These topics will support our community and student achievement.
Our October PAC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 16. Please note that this is a change from the original date of October 9 (as stated in the postcard mailed to parents last month).
Open House is October 7th, 2019
After much conversation and feedback from both families and staff, Rockville High School will be holding our traditional open house on October 7th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. As a community, we will begin our evening in the RHS auditorium at 6:00 PM.
Families will then have the opportunity to follow their child's schedule and meet their classroom teachers. This is a great opportunity to hear all that Rockville High School has to offer our students. We are looking forward to the evening and meeting you.
In an effort to support student ownership of their learning, later this year we will introduce student led conferences. We feel these conferences will promote student voice as they identify and communicate their academic successes and needs. Our goal is for students to facilitate these spring meetings. Please save Monday, March 9th in your calendars.
Congratulations Mrs. Nordlund
