Teach Like a Champion: Technique 43 Turn and Talk
Use these steps:
1. Set the Pairs- partners should be prearranged (shoulder partner, eye ball partner...)
2. Use a In-Cue- use a prompt to let the students know it is a turn and talk opportunity, help them by saying, "partner A talk to partner B about...." or "partner with the longer hair talk to partner with shorter hair"
3. Use a Out-Cue- way to have students wrap up the conversation and come back to the group
*These steps will help make turn and talk run efficiently, so students have rich conversation around the question you posed!
In your Teach Like a Champion book, check out p. 340 for great sentence starters to keep students accountable. Here are some examples.
"I agree because.... " / "I disagree because...."
"I understand why you'd say that, but..."
Watch the videos to see how Turn and Talk, as well as, Accountable Talk can work in your classroom.
