Reading and Writing
Reading
We will conclude our unit titled "Reading History" and begin our unit on reading poetry.
The big work of this unit if for students to:
Explain major differences between poems, drams, and prose
Analyze the structure and elements of poems
Read a poem with correct speed, accuracy, and expression.
Writing
Students will be finishing writing pieces to bring history to life and learning how to write different types of poetry such as limericks, cinquains, prose, acrostic, etc.
4th Grade Math
Finishing Unit 4
Starting Unit 5: Geometry and Measurement
Measure angles and determine angle measurements based on given information
Sort and classify shapes based upon the number and kinds of sides and angles they have.
Calculate the area and perimeter of rectangles.
5th Grade Math
Finishing Unit 4
Starting Unit 5: Multiplying and Dividing Fractions
Multiply fractions by whole numbers
Use rectangular arrays to show multiplication of a fraction by a fraction.
Divide a whole number by a fraction.
Divide a unit fraction by a whole number.
Science
Throughout the school year 4th graders will study:

Electricity and Magnetism
Structures of Life
Focus on the life cycle of trout and the life cycle of plants
Social Studies
Throughout the school year 4th graders will study:
History of Wisconsin
Five Regions of Wisconsin
United States Regions
LMC - Library
Fourth graders know that the library is much more than a collection of books; it’s a place to ask, explore, discover, communicate, and create. This month, we’ll be looking at genres, including graphic novels and nonfiction, and we’ll begin looking at fiction genres such as historical fiction and realistic fiction.
Music
Mrs. Spahn’s classes will be working on: The Blues and Black Music History
4th: Miss Soltis’ classes will be studying the form Theme & Variations. Some examples we will use include “17 Versions of Jingle Bells” by Tony DeSare, Mozart’s “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” and “Le Festin d’Esope” by Alkan.
Technology
We are starting our Digital Citizenship unit where students will compare and contrast their responsibilities to their offline and online communities. Students will continue to strengthen their typing speed and words per minute.
Art
How do artists bring dreams to life? What does art tell us about our world? (Dragon Sculptures)
PE
February is Heart Healthy Month! This month, students will begin with bowling and finish out the month with basketball. We will be participating in our bi-annual Hoops for Heart Event! Students are fundraising to bring awareness to and support the American Heart Association. Packets and fundraising information will be sent out the 1st week of February. The actual event will take place February: 28th and March 1st.
4th grade will be swimming for 5 days in Feb. also including Feb. 11,13,15,19, and 26.
