Read-a-thon Comes to an End!
Thanks so much for participating in the Read-a-thon! Please be sure to turn in money on Monday if you haven't already done so.
Career Presentations
I can't wait to see the career presentations. The kids have been buzzing about them! :) Please let me know if you have questions. If you are interested in coming in to see your child present, you are more than welcome! Let me know and I will give you a time.
Guest Experts
Today we had my husband, Matt, as our guest expert. He talked about being a police officer and SWAT team member. We will have Ian's mom here on Monday to do a cool science lab with us. I will be contacting others soon. So far, these visits have been a hit with the kids.
National Day of Writing
The National Day of Writing is October 20th. There is going to be a special writer's showcase on this day featuring local writers. I have been told I can have three students read a short piece of poetry. I told the kids they can submit a poem to me from class or from home by Monday and I will will narrow it down and send a note home with the three selected with more details for the event.
Science Buddy Visit
We will have our first science buddy visit next week! Mrs. Hall's middle school enrichment science students will come over to our classroom to answer the science questions our students sent over. In December, we will get to walk to the middle school to visit them.
Duct Tape
Our economy money wallets are falling apart. (The kids made them from folders.) We are thinking duct tape wallets would be much sturdier and way cooler! If you are willing to donate a roll of fun colored duct tape, we would be most appreciative. I thought maybe next time the frog reaches the Z we could have a duct tape wallet making session. If you have duct tape skills, you are welcome to join in the fun! Let me know if you are interested.
Coin Jar
The Coin Jar Contest continues. We came in second place last week for bringing in the most coins. The winner gets a Pizza Hut pizza party. Of course the best part is, all of the money raised goes to fight hunger. If you would like to donate some change for the cause, you can send it in an envelope or ziplock bag and we will add it to our jar.
Beware of the Hair...
It's that time of year and there have been some reported cases of lice at the school. Please remind your child to not share coats, hats, etc... Also, periodically check your child's head for critters. They do not discriminate and it can happen to anyone. :(
