LOVE-SERVE-CARE
PLC WEEK 1
Tell Hackberry's Story or someone else will and it might not be the story we want told!
What are you selling?
Imagine entering an elevator. You press the button for the ninth floor and as the door closes, the stranger asks you “So, tell me about Hackberry.” You now have the time to get to floor nine to provide the most accurate and engaging answer that will engage the stranger to want to learn more.
This is the idea of the “elevator speech.” Every teacher at Hackberry should understand our core values. We should understand well enough to accurately and succinctly articulate it in such a way to garner additional interest.
Whether the listener is a prospective student, parent, or community member your answer can engage them and move them to the next level of engagement in a personal and authentic way.
Below is a step by step guide into creating your Hackberry Elevator Speech. Remember we have to tell our story or someone else will and it might not be the story we want told.
By assembling the entire speech, you might come up with something like this:
Hackberry Elementary is a great school where all of our kids are all of our kids. We are focused on preparing students to impact a changing world. Our school offers Dual Language, Monolingual and Bilingual programs. We have unique elementary programs such as AVID, coding, and many leadership programs to develop leadership in all students. We have a motto of Love, Serve, Care and we live these out each day to ensure all of our students are taken care of. I can provide our web address so you can explore further and learn more. Would you like it?

Word Walls
Word walls are collections of words. These can be alphabetized, and can be posted in various areas of the classroom. The word wall can be used as a reference when children read and write or engage in word study. There are many types of word walls: high frequency words, content area word walls with vocabulary from any of the content areas; and literature word walls. Word study word walls might focus on words with the same beginning, ending, vowel pattern, rime, or similar meanings. They may look like words posted on the wall, words displayed in a pocket chart, or word lists on paper or a bulletin board. Word walls can be developed from the beginning of the year and should change frequently during the year as words are introduced, learned, and mastered.
