Importance of Emissions

Why should I get my emissions tested?

Emissions Testing in Georgia

The most important reason behind getting your emissions tested is the fact that there is a law in the state of Georgia called the Georgia Clean Air Force, which requires emissions tests once every twelve months. There are twelve counties in Georgia that require emissions tests. "Georgia law requires that no person (dealers or individuals) sell a used vehicle, if such vehicle is to be registered in one of the 13 covered counties (Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnet, Henry, Paulding, and Rockdale), unless such vehicle has a valid, passing certificate of vehicle emission inspection at the time of sale (DNR Rule 391-3-20-.18(1))." ("Georgia Vehicle Emissions"). Another important reason for this test is that the test will show which cars are emitting more toxic fumes into the atmosphere and will help to diagnose the problem causing this higher emission. Getting Your Test

You are not required to get your emissions test done within your county, but it is recommended. They will search for things such as a sealed fuel cap to ensure no gasoline is seeping out of the gas tank. "If your vehicle fails the test, be sure to obtain a copy of the Question & Answer brochure from the testing station or ask about qualified shops to get your issue fixed" ("What if My").
