Principal Notes:
Here we go - Year 2017-2018 is here! A new school year is such an exciting time. Please let me extend a welcome to all of parents to become more involved at ZR this year. If you would like to volunteer, you can sign up here. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call my office. Please be aware that I often am unable to return calls until after the students go home at 3:00, so if it is something pressing that cannot wait please let my secretary know when calling.
There will be some paperwork coming home soon. We will be sending home the school handbook, a residency form, and a financial condition form. Let me explain a couple of these.
The residency form is needed so we can establish whether or not students are living in varying conditions. For example, if a student is living in a home with another family or you and your child are doubling up with a grandparent, friend, family, etc. rather than your own personal home you are buying or renting, we may be entitled to certain additional benefits for your child.
The financial form we will be sending could qualify your family exempt from paying book rent. We are tentatively approved to give ALL families in our district free breakfast and lunch this year regardless of income. As soon as we have been officially approved, we must have this financial form on file as documentation for every family that does not have to pay book rent. If we do not have this financial form on file, we must collect book rent from you. The form will be much like the free lunch application you have seen in the past.
Please return these completed forms with your child as quickly as possible.
Do your child a favor. Even though they may hate it, and it may be difficult to consistently stick to, get your child on a routine. A routine homework time, chore time, bath time, bedtime benefits a child more than you may realize. If you would like some tips on establishing and maintaining a routine, you may want to check out this website. Though it is written specifically for parents of children with attention problems, it has some great tips. Another resource for parents of different aged children that may be helpful is here. Here is an after school routine check-list that can be used immediately after school.
I hope you had time to read over our new positive behavior intervention plan for this year. Our PBIS team has put a lot of time and work into creating a plan that will take some of the negative focus off our students' behavior and redirect it to rewarding them for the positive behaviors we like to see. Please talk to your kids about how they are doing with their behavior points and help us keep your child focused on maintaining good behavior.
